In an emergency, is it safe to eat the geese at my local park?

Cause I mean, they eat a lot of filthy garbage and swim in what can only charitably be called a pond. But if the world ends and I have no food I have to assume they'll look pretty good. Do I just have to cook them really well? Or are there other butcher things I'd have to know to have a safe eating experience?

OMG do you people not hear what you read or write for that matter?
OP is talking end of the world scenario. Yes they will be fine to eat. People hunt and eat these same type of wild geese.
If the end of the world is coming I plan on eating a lot worse things if need be.
I say go for it OP and if any nut jobs want to show up and whine about it eat them also.
At the end of time there will be no room for cry babies.

OK I get it but it sounded rude. Don't you agree those birds should not be killed?
Oh lord here we go....
Yes animal cruelty is the worst and anyone caught being intentionally cruel to an animal should be strung up and beaten.
However PETA takes things too far as they want everyone to be vegan. Look up some of their campaigns; they are ridiculous and costly and will not change the world.
calm down - like I said animal cruelty is the worst.

Get some backyard chickens and start a little farm with a rooster so you can hatch your own food and know exactly what it’s fed. But no, do not eat wild geese; as the above poster stated you’ll get in serious trouble, not to mention all the crazy PETA nut bags that will probably harass you for life.
I don't think "People Eating Tasty Animals" would mind you eating them at all, isn't that what PETA stands for :)

I don't respect what PETA does at all. They're literally domestic terrorists are are not interested in helping improve animal welfare. They are only interested in the complete liberation AKA extinction of all domestic animals and furthermore are pushing for an extremist, classist, and racist way of life.

While on that topic, the HSUS is also a lobbyist group, doesn't run actual shelters, and is essentially the more socially acceptable/toned down face of PETA. Same end goal.

Ok, if its the end of the world, and you get to the point where you want to eat trash-eating geese, then why would you have the time to make a pen, catch them (assuming you can find a male and female), wait for them to lay a clutch of eggs, wait almost a month for them to hatch, then at least 2 or 3 months for the offspring to be big enough to eat. This process does take quite a bit more time than hunting. This is all theoretical, of course.
Kinda like when covid hit and everyone ran out and bought chicks because the stores ran out of eggs for a week and a half?

'PETA'? Please specify?
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. They are an organization that takes protection of animals to an extreme. Before people jump all over me yes I realize that they do many wonderful things for animals. It’s just my opinion that they go too far with their campaigns and making people feel bad.
