In case you every wondered...what a difference my robot has made!!!

My friends 560 has two sweepers in the front (little hands) and I am sure sweeps better than mine. Mine really does great in my house though which is hardwood floors, tile and flat throw rugs. It can have problems with throw rugs that don't hug the floor well, like knitted type things.

I am wrong, my friend has the 530.

Let me know if you have problems with this link.

The warranty is shorter, that is the only thing. I still think it is a great deal.

The Roomba sounds awesome!

I like the idea of it returning to its docking station on its own. How does it know where the station is at? Does the station broadcast a signal?

My Dirt Dog is en route!! It was in Jacksonville Friday evening - hoping it is on the UPS truck for delivery tomorrow! My beloved has instructions to open the box when it arrives (I will be at work) and plug it in to start the 16hrs of charging IMMEDIATELY!! I can hardly wait!

Should I run my conventional vacuum today and get the bulk of the Golden Retriever hair up before turning the Dirt Dog loose? I'm thinking yes - otherwise the Dirt Dog will probably need to be cleaned repeatedly while doing the job. What do you think?

I would love one. Wonder if it would pick up all the crud my parrots toss out there cages? Not sure if my dog and cats would freak out from it. LOL my pup barks at the regular vacuum and bounces around it.

My friend has parrots (with the 530) and it does great. Occasionally, it sends a dried pea spinning around a few times but then gets it.

Yes, Verlaj, I would run the vaccuum and get a lot of the dog hair first. Hopefully this will be the last time.Once it's charged try to run it twice a day for a while. You have to let it charge about 8-12 hours between (green light comes on). My friend uses a seem ripper to slide along and get the long hair out of the brushes.
It only takes a minute or two for each brush, but it does come with a little plastic tool for cleaning the brushes you may or may not like better. They are held in a little cage with buttons you push and then slide the cage forward to get to the brushes. The ends on the brushes are different so be careful when you put them back. You'll also have to pull the hair off of the front wheel and around the little sweeper.

Please tell us and me what you think once you've run it!!!!

TCL, It finds the dock, slows way down, and redocks. It reminds me of when you put a boat in a docking slip and then jump out and tie the ropes.

Thanks for the advice, luvarabhorses! I will report after I run my Dirt Dog!

I am happy to tell you that while I am sitting here goofing off (before work), my Dirt Dog is busily "sweeping" my kitchen floor! This is very satisfying! It arrived on Monday - charged until this morning. (I didn't get the downstairs pre-vacuumed until last night and didn't want to run the Dirt Dog while we slept.)

Need to find my seam ripper or get a new one - instructions say cut long hairs wrapped around brush with scissors - seam ripper sounds much more efficient!

Questions for now - can the DD only work on one room at a time? I have it closed off in the kitchen, but the rest of the downstairs has a pretty open floor plan and blocking off one room will not be easy without a "virtual wall." I am already considering the 3X the cost package - I see the need for virtual walls, docking station, etc. (Husband says - "No this is fine! We can make barriers to keep it in one room! We can just plug it back in when it needs to recharge!")

I'll report more later. The house looks better already - getting it prepped for the DD meant picking up debris (shoes and so on) and pre-vacuuming!
