In Lockdown, July Hatch Soon!

When you say he won't open his toes, do you mean uncurl them, they are curled up underneath his foot? He/she is still young enough to do the bandaid trick. Or, use something on each toe to keep them straight for a while. There are sights you can look on to see how it's done, the different ways..for different toe problems.

I mean he wont open it, theyre not curled, theyre straight but all his toes are together, he doesnt use his foot almost like hes in pain because of it. i dont know what happened. he was in the incubator, then in the brooder.. the incubator has nothing in it that would hurt him, just other eggs.. i dont know how he might have gotten hurt unless he strained it when he was hatching?

oh, so let's see if I'm picturing right, he won't spread his toes out..? Poor thing won't walk on that foot if his toes aren't out. Sounds healthy otherwise. I kind of doubt he hurt himself. Sounds like you did everything right. You never know, maybe how he was in the egg for all that time..I'm not sure.

Lock down yesterday for some barn yard babies I got from a friend. Saw some wriggling today. It's always fun when the action begins.
Hoping they will be one time and hatch by Tues..I have some Welsummer and Welsummer bantys to go in next.

sgt_dane, I've got one like that now that's a couple weeks old, a Dominique chick. He eats and drinks well but he does limp and act as if his leg hurts him. I've considered culling him, as I haven't been able to figure out what to do for him since it's a weird problem. With mine, it appears that the hock (or whatever you call that joint in a chicken) is enlarged.

Oh good, someone else that's expecting the same day that I am. What do you have and how many. I mentioned that I have a barn yard mix for now, only 7 in out of the 8 my friend gave me...not bad so far.

Anyway, I woke up with three new little babies this morning. Three more to go, one almost out. When I went to bed, there were five pipped..so I figured I'd have at least one this morning..cute little stinks.

Boy this was close..got those hatched, went into lock down with some Wesummers, and today I have some new Welsummer mix, plus some pure Welsummer bantams. Never had a bantam before,,they are so tiny next to the other ones. I hear they are hardy though.
Now, will have one more hatch this month..some pure Large Welsummers. And, I had asked if she had any Orpingtons', she said she only had some that she was thinking about hatching, but threw 6 of them in. So far, two Orpingtons are doing well, and the other four are Welsummers. Really excited for the Welsummers. Due to hatch the 27th.
Now, anyone else going to hatch around that time?
