In need of Spring break ideas...(little to no cost)

When I was 12 I had fun making those hook rug things, they sell the kits at the craft store. I made one that was a picture of a big shaggy dog one school break.

You could let them help cook, maybe plan a meal and let them shop for the ingredients, then cook you (and your DH) supper one night.

Have a pajama and movie day where you pop popcorn and relax all day long.

Go to a nature sanctuary if you have one.

Make Easter Eggs that won't spoil--poke a little hole in the top and bottom of an egg, then blow the contents out of the egg, and dye/paint/paper mache the shell.

Make paper mache! It's fun, and messy. You can check out craft books from the library (after 5 lol).

Volunteer at an animal shelter for the day. (Some shelters make you take orientation classes but others just welcome volunteers to come in and play with the animals...it's kitten and puppy season!)

Make a potted herb garden. Herbs sprout pretty quickly!

spring break starts at 315pm...loland goes for 1 week...out door stuff is kinda limited because its still way to cold

the hotels here wont let you use their pools and to go to the city run pools it will cost us $10 to get in...so thats still ok but we will only be able to do that for one day

the scrapbooking will keep DD busy for hours great idea

All I remember is flour, water, and newspaper, and using balloons to put it on for the frame for a head then once it was dry popping the balloon inside...

I do not how many people know of flylady.net.....but last year during the summer she had a camp idea for the house. My kids and I loved it....they planned out really cool things to do at home and the house got cleaned and organized at t he same time....it was a lot of fun!!

I don't know how it is there but here in indiana we have quite a few museums that offer free days . Just check there website. The last few years the free days corresponded with spring break. also we have quite a few rescue farms and no kill shelters that are always looking for folks to volunteer, maybe you can set aside a few hours to volunteer. usually it's mucking stalls alking or playing with puppies that kinda thing. Fun for the kids, teaches them about the need to volunteer and help a noble cause, and get outta the house for awhile.

Call the YMCA and see about the family swim times and fees. Our's only charges $2 for each of us.

Not sure how much snow you have down in Guelph, but they are calling for nice weather for the week (fingers crossed here!). I'm going to try planning a hike, well for us it's snowshoeing or cross country skiing at Awenda Park. Guelph has a few trails available, http://guelphtrails.blogspot.com/ this is all I could find for Guelph. I'm not sure about Guelp Lake if they charge a fee in the winter or not, Awenda doesn't for area residents.

Otherwise my kids (12 & almost 11) will be doing the extra work that the teachers send home (I asked for it), reading, and playing outside along with yard clean up - we still have to much snow for alot of that but they can get a start. Hopefully the weather will be nice enough they can get their bikes out and have fun that way to. Oh almost forgot, we've got play dates set up for them with their best friends. Half a day spent here and another half day spent there. I made it so that my son is at his friend's when my daughter has her friend here and vise versa (that way they aren't bugging each other).

Thankfully my 17 yr old is in Quebec for the week so no listening to him whine about there being nothing to do...LOL.
