Incandescent Light Bulb Ban...

The answer to this problem is currently being developed, have no fear of the ban. Necessity is the mother of all invention. I am very new to the art of incubation, however I am very experienced in both IT and electronics. I am actually surprised that this hasn't been done before since it can be done much easier with electronics with much tighter tolerances and control for the same or less cost than the old light bulb, stat/hydrometer sitting in the in the incubator method. This will be a completely integrated Styrofoam container. Not with electrical boxes and 110acv/12dcv circuits running every which way. Even the commercial folks are still using antiquated heating elements. At any rate, I would welcome a couple of volunteers, are there any takers? Preliminary tests are very promising. Here is a sneak peak of the highly efficient integrated thermostat/heating board. Look, no bulbs or heating elements!

I would be interested in trying it. Will 32 watts of heat be enough for an incubator?

CoopCreations - that looks like a great possiblity if you have brooders.

When my chickens were young, I used a 40 or 60 watt pink bulb inside the extra large dog carrier (kept inside one of my bathrooms) that was their 1st home that provided enough heat, but didn't blare the light at them like a normal light bulb. I'll definitely check out a ceramic heat emitter as mentioned earlier - just hope it's not as expensive as it sounds!

From what I understand from the news and newspapers, there will be a ban going into effect next year. Would you please provide a link to your source of information, so that I may balance the information? Thank you.

The latest info I've heard is that you do not have to give up the old type light bulbs but that companies in USA are no longer making them. They are only made in China (big surprise). Weird because every old light bulb I've picked up was already made in China. What's the difference? I've also read articles that said flood lights, brooder lights and specialty shaped type bulbs, motion detector lights etc. were not included in a ban because the new stupid twisty looking things are not availble in those types. I have the twisty bulbs in regular light fixtures in the house and the light is so dull, it's very hard to read by etc. But big government knows what is best for us. The mercury in them is also more a of a problem than regular light bulbs. Me thinks we are supposed to use them before they are ALL made in China, and we do have to support their economy.

Since I don't trust anything I hear or read , I would advise stocking up on the bulbs you need now. I don't think the gestapo will go door to door checking if we use the proper bulbs. However, if there is a raid or a girl scout selling cookies - they might see and report us for non compliance. Just joking, I hope.
