Inconsistent Air Sacs

I'm going to try this tonight. I'm not feeling good about my hatch at all! Not seeing any movement on day 20 but this year I didn't wash the eggs so I'm hoping that maybe I just can't see?

Day 20 is one of the hardest times to see anything in your egg. Don't give up on them. They are probably just filling the egg. Don't worry unless you start to see obvious bruising on the egg or it starts to smell bad.

I assume all the eggs were fresh?

I’ve had it happen (currently happening, actually lol) I think different hens have stronger blooms than others. When I see some that are staying small, I take a sponge, lightly dampened, and rub those eggs a little, to remove some of the bloom, just to allow a little more moisture loss. I try to do that in the late-2nd to early-3rd week, to give them time to catch up.

The eggs were definitely fresh. I helped the guy collect the Ancona eggs from under the ducks myself lol. Plus, all of the eggs in the incubator started to develope at the same time. Even the ones I collected from my own ducks.

Removing some bloom is great advice that I hadn't considered, but I'm afraid the thin eggs wouldn't have handled that well. They are very fragile. I can still try that with my own eggs though. They are very strong. Almost impossible to crack (except the one I dropped my full water mister on during a previous hatch, just a week before hatch :barnie).

They could have all lost the correct weight still. But we won’t know for sure. I had one this last hatch that didn’t have movement of air cell size until lockdown.

Well, I just candled them again tonight, and 2 of the 5 eggs with small air sacs now have normal air sacs and have internally pipped. About half of the eggs are now internally pipped and rocking on day 24. I expect I'll start seeing external pips sometime tomorrow. Yay!

I'm glad you mentioned them rolling around. I'm having trouble when I turn mine now (with the X & O's). They don't want to stay put! Does that mean something? I'm on day 21 now.

If they're moving on their own, it's the baby ducks trying to position themselves for pipping. But I also have problems with the eggs rolling sometimes just because of their shape. The wire flooring doesn't exactly provide a good surface for holding them in place.
