Incubating against the odds...

:fl
How come you didn't trace your air cells?
Hahaha... In simple terms, I'm paranoid/crazy.
To elaborate...i don't like to write on eggs(only did the numbers to verify which was which), the cells from days 4-18 (3-17) have progressed evenly on all three of my incubations, very similar to the ones pictured on the web, and so i don't really see a good reason- unless something goes wrong, then i definitely agree that seeing the sac from the outside might help identify the reason for failure.

So this evening we started our third incubation, a friend of ours recieved a blue copper maran rooster and his Americauna has been laying fertile green eggs quite consistently. We had eight saved from march 29th until today, and threw in a random brown egg just to fill the incubator. I've uploaded a picture so you can see, these eggs are very small and oblong, so I'm not positive they will do great, and with some of them being over a week old i know their success rate is decreased-but we've tried some tricks such as the pointy side down in an effort to give all these eggs a fighting chance!
We'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions and we'll keep you posted on the details over the next few weeks! View attachment 1329322
I'm catching up now.
Where is egg number 5?

If anyone is interested, my other half has been candling these eggs every night just to see the difference a day makes. He is the one who started this thread also. You could say its his experiment.
Congrats on the marriage and house!
WOOT!
KOOP! :love

Have you tried shining the light on the side of the egg?

Might not have explained that very well on here... Eggs were labelled by date. The mom decided to hold out on april 5th. 0 and 00 were retrieved on march 30th, so one was actually from the 29th, just not sure which. Also two sevens because we couldn't wait further (picking up local babies to mix) so we needed to fill slot nine.

And thank you! It's been exciting and busy times!

And we went all around the egg. In person the green eggs are great to see through, even on day 18 (17) we could see some tiny feet/wings...

It's ok if you don't know how to count.
We don't judge.

Ehhh...I use a pencil and never had a problem.
I find it helpful when I see pips during hatching to know if the are inside or outside the air cell...plus that's how I gauge when/how adjust my humidity.

The pips idea is interesting... Newb question: what's good/bad about pipping above or below that line?

We tried to keep our humidity at 45 (which honestly went up and down 20 percent, but on average was close) and the air sacs "seemed" fine... But I'm not experienced enough to recognize where the line should be to tune it well. I figured as long as it got slightly larger and leaned, we were good. Might have to do some reading...
