Incubating call duck eggs..

Will do...but then what?

Wait, lol... they can take quite a while to hatch... use a qtip and vaseline to keep the membrane moist so they don't get shrink wrapped... give them time to finish getting out on their own, if it's been a day without progress, then you can try helping more but watch for veins... if they veins haven't receded, just leave them... as long as they can breathe they can sit there for a long time... I had 1 that didn't have it's yolk absorbed yet and stayed like that for 3 days... he is now happy and healthy running around fast as he can, lol... :D

PM me if you have more questions... don't want to hijack the OP's thread... :)

Okay! No worries! Highjack away! Will putting the eggs upright for a few days hurt or kill the ducklings? If not then I much prefer to just put them upright, they will be on an angle most of the time n e ways.

Blue painters tape won't leave sticky residue and you should make it long enough to wrap completely around the egg and the turner slat 2x so it wouldn't loosen and pop off... but if you are worried about it, then just set them in the turner for the 2 days upright... can't think of anything else....

Hello!

Thank you!

Thanks for being understanding about the other poster! :)

I th8nk they should be ok for a couple days upright in the turner... you said it will be day 14, so they should be well into development already...

Yup, I put them in the upright turner and I candled them. They embryo was not attached to the egg side anymore. You can see them swimming around! At least it looks like that! They will be on a 160 degree tilt most of the time n e ways. Rarely will they actually be straight up 90 degrees. I wonder why they say not to incubate call duck eggs in an upright turner the entire time? I think if they are still developing I will leave them in the turner for a while! Geesh it is a lot easier than having to hand turn them!

If necessary when should I lay them back on their sides to hand turn?

Thanks!!

I would only leave them in the turner for the time you will be gone and lay them down again once you get back... eggs are really meant to be incubated on their sides and duck eggs are the ficklest... it may cause them to develop and then fail to hatch...

I agree. I would definitely take them off the turner and lay them back on their sides after the two days when you get back home.
