Hello everyone! A little over a week ago I brought in an egg my silkie hen had been sitting on for a while. (Into a brinsea mini advanced.) I know it’s internally pipped already because I can hear it peeping. Yesterday I saw a little crack in the external shell, but I can see that the membrane is still in tact. There’s no “hole.” I know I did not do nearly as much research as I should have and I continued turning, candling, and moving around the egg after day 18. Now I know I’m not supposed to do this, but it’s already done. I’ll attach a photo of the “external pip” here. Is this a pip? It’s been about 20 hours since the external pip and there has been no progress. I raised the humidity levels to both sides full. Should I maybe wet a paper towel and put it in there for more humidity or should I just leave it be and see what happens? When should (if) I try to help it if it makes no progress and how? I’m really worried about shrink wrapping. What exactly should I do?
Thank you so much

If your water reservoir are both full, should be good, do you have a hygrometer? The Brinsea are pretty accurate, 65% humidity should be alright. You probably want to remove the turning tray from under the eggs and place it with hatching pad for good feet traction, my miniII came with it, looks like a round corrugated cardboard.

That's a pip, yes. They don't always break the membrane. Did you have the humidity raised before it pipped, or did you only do that some time after it pipped?

If it were my egg, after 24 hours from the time of the pip, I would carefully open the air cell to see what's going on, following this guide:

I already had the water holders filled all the way before the pip. But I did remove the lid every so often to candle it because I didn’t know you’re not supposed to get it out after a certain day. It is still filled all the way now.

It has been 24 hours since the external pip (my first picture). I have followed your advice and took the shell off where the air cell is. I am attaching a picture of what it looks like now. I put the coconut oil on the membrane and returned it to the incubator. Any advice at this time would be greatly appreciated. I am so nervous. Side note...the chick is still peeping and wiggling.

Still absorbing, so let it be for now. When it's done, the veins will have receded. Actually, when it's ready it should just push itself right out of the hole you made in the air cell. So, just put it back and keep an eye on it for now :)

Thank you so much to everyone who replied! We now have an adorable, healthy baby.
I've attached photos. ❤
