Incubating egg worries

Hello everyone,
It has been 3 hours since the start of day 20 incubating my eggs, when i candled my eggs on day 18 there was a relatively large empty space on the pointy side of the egg, not be be confused as the air sac, which is there. People told me there is an empty space because people incubate their eggs vertically and I dont, but even if that is the case, the space is big enough for it to be small for day 18, I suspect my eggs are just behind for a reason involving temperature, the chicks were moving around in the egg, indicating they are alive, but i would like to here everyones opinion on this, like what do you think will happen, will they hatch around day 21? no chirping or movement yet, hopefully they are normal and everything is fine, what do you guys think?

Hi Sean,

I would just be patient. They actually can grow a lot in those last 3 days. The main thing now is to keep them in lockdown. I always count the day after I set as Day 1 and try not to fret too much until Day 21 if I haven't heard any chirping or see any pipping. Let us know how it goes.

When I put the eggs in the incubator, I count the next day as Day 1. I candle on Days 10 and 18. On Day 18 I move the eggs into my hatcher and put in lockdown. I don't open the incubator for anything until Day 21. I hope that helps.

i heard if you open the incubator it can hurt the chicks (after day 18) but i will have to refill the humidity tray, to do this i will have to open it, is that ok?

Next time, you may want to add a bigger humidity tray or use humidity pads that soak up extra water. If you are out of water though, it would be best to add it before the eggs start pipping. You may also want to spritz the inside of the incubator quickly with a spray water bottle while it is open.
