Thanks for the thread on hatching and wine!

I recently got back to drinking some blackberry wine and am hooked but not snockered.
The first 2 eggs I set did not develop but I have another one in and haven't candled. I am rolling this one by hand a few times a day. The girls are now starting to drop them from the roosting boards so I may have to take those out. I hate to since they love roosting. But I would love to hatch out some pea chicks.

I use a Sportsman 1202 and have 2 others set up for more chicken and duck eggs, the styrofoam ones.

Put some shavings under your roost that will make a good cussion when they fall.

I use a hovabator also! I don't have a fancy egg holder turner whatever thingy. I just lay mine on the mesh and turn them at least 4-5 times a day. To me the more times you turn the better. Last year I hatched out I think all the eggs I put in there...I got a second hovabator because I started incubating some eggs and then got some more later so when the first eggs were ready for lockdown I would move them to the other incubator. The only problem I have had is the chicks not being able to dry off in the incubator. Some people I think leave them in there to dry? You can't do that in the hovabator because it is so humid that they won't dry, but the humidity is good so that the egg doesn't dry out. My main method for hatching now will be peahens. XD

Hello! I have this incubator and I was wondering what kind of thermometer you use. I'm just getting started, last season I let my hen sit on her 5 eggs and I only hatched one chick

This year I plan on doing better after all I'm only 18 so I have a long career lol

Any tips on getting an older hovabator to hatch peachicks would be greatly appreciated

Oh my, I just talked to my friend that is giving me all the peafowl and he said he is bringing me more than a dz eggs from his pens of Peach, Cameo and IB to hatch for myself. I hope I do this right!

Thank you, Zaz. I think we will try that in loo of taking down the roosts. I don't want them to spend all the time on the ground.

The 27th is UNLOCK DOWN date for my grape wine. Will be starting a batch of strawberry wine on Saturday. Going to pick up a flat from a local farmer this Saturday. I"m excited.

Since I am so new to this I have no idea if they are true Peach or not. He told me they are Peach but I must admit that the variety is not exactly my cup of tea (or should I say, glass of wine?) He really wants me to take over the entire breeding program but I am so slow on building the breeding pens that I feel I will never get them all over here.
I mentioned to this breeder about breeding Peach and he said they bought the Peach birds already and have just been using those. Never had one go white and never had one to go blind. I read they did...somewhere.

I haven't had Blackberry Merlot. I like a sweet table wine and go for the Blackberry that is made cheap. Never made my own, either. Sounds like fun! My sister made her own Scuppergong wine and it was okay.
I am afraid one glass at night has me looking for my pillow so I can't drink during a hatch along! LOL

I DO have eggs incubating so I am excited to see when they may hatch out so i know if I am doing this correctly. I figure they are a lot like turkey eggs. I hatch ducks and chickens all the time. Fingers crossed for the pea eggs!
