Incubating pekin

Still no pip, just to prepare myself, if things go down hill, when would be a good time to make a small hole to see him and membrane?

It still early, I think. I'd wait at least a few more days, unless it starts to stink, or you are positive there is no movement in the egg. Even then, I'd barely poke a hole, double check for life, before breaking the egg wide open. And smell it first! Opening a rotten one is bad.

But we aren't giving up hope yet!! We want a live duckling. :fl

Oh my gosh you aren't being a freak lol I would be doing the same exact thing. Is this your first time hatching? I don't think I'd ever be able to handle it just because of all the pressure but you have gotten this far! Don't give up yet! Just wait a bit longer to see what happens. Hang in there!

Yes this is my first hatch, im fine when they are here n walking around.lol. but not being able to see is stressful. They need ultrasounds for eggs, lol. I was reading a thread about this lady whos chick didnt pip through internally but she could here it peep. He was shrink wrapped at 3 days past hatch date and still alive

Most times, you won't hear anything until they do internally pip. I hatched Call ducks last weekend, and they had internally pipped, but not external. I had to assist them all. Lost one that i waited too long for.

So...wait for an internal pip, and start an 18-hour timer. At 18 hours, check again. They can take sometimes 24, but making a safety hole around 18 hours is ok. Teeny tiny hole, just pin sized to let air in for it to breathe. Bigger air cells can go 24 hours or more, smaller air cells I tend to do safety holes sooner.
