Incubating Shipped Eggs

They're here! They're here! Just got them in egg cartons and letting them sit overnight before I check air cells and put them in the incubator. Little problem though...the sellers all sent extra and I have 48 eggs and only 42 spots in the incubator. Now what??

Yay!!!

Actually I had 2 hens go broody so I split the extras between them.  It'll be fun to compare the incubated eggs with the broody hens eggs.  Neither hen has ever hatched eggs before though so hopefully they don't quit early :fl

In a few days you will be able to tell which eggs are clears or non-viable. So you will have some empty spots soon, just in case a hen quits.

Just a quick update...temp is at 102 at the top of the eggs. Humidity is at 43%. I did turn on the egg turner since most of the air cells looked good (there were some I couldn't see). Here's hoping everything goes well :)

That's means the eggs are fresh!! Good luck!! :fl

Hey @Hawk12 !! Just read through all the posts (I've been offline for nearly a week) and sounds like your hatch is getting off to a great start! Can't wait to follow along with you in your hatching journey. Hoping for you as always a 100% hatch :)

Update with pics: It is day 8 and I just candled the eggs and marked the air cells. Some look really good and some don't. Out of 41 eggs set I only have 26 that are still alive, most were clears of the ones that didn't make it. I needadvice on the weird looking air cells...can the chicks still hatch if the air cells are going down the side of the egg? And some of the air cells move still. What does that mean for the babies? All 26 eggs have movement at this point.

@Sally Sunshine has been my go to advice person. As long as the chick is alive I think there is a chance. Are the air cells still detached or are they attached, but saddle shaped?

The saddle shaped ones are attached but I also have ones that aren't saddle shaped but still move around some. Not completely detached but not completely attached either.
