Incubating Shipped Eggs

I set the eggs at 11:30 this morning. 41 is what fit in the incubator. It's really hard to leave the extras. I will check the temp and humidity to see if it has changed at all. Now the countdown begins...

On left hand side of turner. Couldn't you just set those extras there? You would have to turn them by hand. . They might not hatch but they might too.. just a thought.

I'm a newbie too, and have done four hatches with shipped eggs; varying degrees of success. I've found that most air sacs will reattach though the air cells tend to be rather deformed instead of a nice oval shape. I, too, read about not turning for the first four days and tried it - disastrous; I had lots of unprogressed embryos which I attribute to not turning early on.

I've just put down 12 eggs and I've got another six being shipped so I'm there alongside you with this hatch

That makes me nervous. I'm going to start the egg turner tonight instead of waiting. I candled the eggs and most of the air cells looked good so I don't think there is any reason to wait on turning them. Thanks for the advice

Actually I had 2 hens go broody so I split the extras between them. It'll be fun to compare the incubated eggs with the broody hens eggs. Neither hen has ever hatched eggs before though so hopefully they don't quit early

Perfect!! I'm hoping my silkie hen will go down on some eggs because my incubator only holds 12 and it's full....I've got another six eggs on the way. Would be good to pop them under a broody.

Just a quick update...temp is at 102 at the top of the eggs. Humidity is at 43%. I did turn on the egg turner since most of the air cells looked good (there were some I couldn't see). Here's hoping everything goes well

Yay! It is fun. 2 of my hens each hatched out only 1 egg each this fall. Kind of odd that they each only had 1. But it was so sweet to see them with the babies. Sadly something got them tho...

How sad I'm so sorry. It's tough to lose any of them but especially when they're little. I've had my big birds kill one of my littles before when it g
