For the sake of those with a weak stomach, I won't sing the part about drinking them back up.

I'm still catching up, but I never catch up in time before everyone bails for bed, so a post first. Long day - I crashed for hours right when I got home from work, then woke up with just enough time for chicken chores. Alas, only got the water changed and the babies' feed topped off, because I discovered that someone pecked Goodwin's tail feathers and back (probably on the roost) and that included some blood feathers, so he was bleeding. He is so hand tame - even though I had to pull out the blood feather stubs (to get them to stop bleeding), he was really good. I cleaned his little stubs and sprayed vetericyn, and got the brooder set up as a little home for him to remove, but I needed to watch for a little bit to ensure he was no longer bleeding. (This photo is after it blood feather stubs pulled and blood cleaned off) I gave him the choice, and he wanted to watch Star Wars. He is so very very sweet and such a cuddle monkey. I've never had a bird that was both injured and brought into a new unfamiliar environment (to heal) be so calm and unflappable. He just draped his head and neck over my arm and watched the movie until I put him to bed in the brooder. I have already decided to keep him (hence the name). Because he has pea comb genetics (with associated pea comb feather pattern that I want in my naked necks), blue egg genetics, AND lavender genetics, he will get his own Gigolo love shack, as I fully plan on crossing him with EVERYONE - he's going to be a busy, busy boy. Maybe he's so mellow because he knows... Off to finish the read-back... - Ant Farm
My worry with your adorable boy is that he is growing up with no fear of /respect for humans, and as an adult may become a human aggressive rooster. Been there -done that :( I never pet the boys for that reason

Well, I get the lousy mean chicken owner award tonight. I was sick of crawling under the coop in the 18" space for the stupid March 25 chicks that are not going back in the coop at dusk. Of course they have no adult examples. So I hosed them to the ladder. A few I had to get out if the corner afterwards. I felt like a worm.
:hugs Not gonna hurt them, don't feel bad!!! Much preferrable to gettin munched upon!! :hugs
Thank you, Miracle Max! LOL! My sister knocked me out with a slingshot and a very stale black jellybean. I don't like slingshots anymore.
:D Jellybean??? Oh my!
How do you know I'm young?? A lot of us here like you, if you weren't here our lives would be different and boring we wouldn't have that joy and happiness you bring into our lives. We all think you are very special MC. :hugs
You talk like a young 'un
:hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs Yay!!!! Go chickies!!! :jumpy Yikes - yeah, you're right. Yes - this works - I thought of trying to describe that as well, but could figure out how - and it only works if you can get at both sides (sometimes I can't, like when I'm working overhead from inside a tractor coop). Joey, can you please come to my house and build and fix everything for me? I have lots of homemade Haagen-Daaz type ice cream...:D Story of my life... Yikes! I've had it happen where I'm actually OUT THERE WITH THEM, and I don't notice until it's too late and the swooping has started. Do you have any fenced in areas or paddocks? I have found that draping surveyors tape overhead helps a lot to deter, as the hawks can't work out what looks like a safe land and take off path. It's not perfect, but they actually NEST in my yard and are EVERYWHERE here, and it has really helped. You can usually find the rally bright ugly stuff at Lowes/Home Depot - I ordered green surveyor tape on Amazon and my eyeballs have stopped bleeding now...:gig These are unbelievably adorable pics - thanks so much for sharing them! (I especially like the pig photo!!!!!:love ) Miracle Max, to the rescue... You're doing your best to ensure that they are safe at night. Don't feel bad - you can only do what you can do. :hugs - Ant Farm
Yes, I have a HUGE fenced run that would cost a lot to cover with wire. Hmm, great idea!! I'll try that! I think I have a nest too- I saw 3 adults and 2 babies flying over my yard a bunch that land in trees, they have just always left my girls alone.
