Just popping in quick - I know Chaos gave an update for me too. We've had the worst luck, medically for awhile now!
I was actually in the hospital not this past weekend but the one previously and was supposed to follow up with a cardiologist yesterday but THEN my son turned 7 Sunday & broke his arm Monday! I rushed him to our little rural hospital but they don't do pediatrics and the xray showed he'd likely need surgery. So we went by ambulance to the big children's hospital in Fort Worth. He had surgery yesterday and they placed 3 pins in his arm & then a cast of course. Pain control has been a challenge and of course I just hate this for him.
Thank you for the thoughts, prayers & messages!!![]()

Yay!!!! Go chickies!!!
Yikes - yeah, you're right.
Yes - this works - I thought of trying to describe that as well, but could figure out how - and it only works if you can get at both sides (sometimes I can't, like when I'm working overhead from inside a tractor coop).Sure do, 2 of them, actually, but they won't fit through the 1/4" mesh. It occurred to me that I might be able to push both ends of a zip tie through one side, then thread the ends together on the other side.

Story of my life...Now that I finally caught up no one is here.
Yikes! I've had it happen where I'm actually OUT THERE WITH THEM, and I don't notice until it's too late and the swooping has started.Well, that was terrifying.....![]()
Looked out the window, and saw a hawk swooping for one of the RSL pullets. Ran out there like a screaming idjit! I got there just in time, Jace, her chicks, and the EHAL babies were all cornered too.
That could have turned out VERY badly.![]()
Thankfully, the pullet he got is okay, a few feathers missing but nothing else. Now the hawk knows, though.![]()
Lucky (my favorite EHAL chick) was missing for a good ten minutes, gave me a panic attack until he came racing out of the woods, terrified, before trying to hide under me! Poor guy!
Chickens are locked up for now, until I build saftey huts for them.

Do you have any fenced in areas or paddocks? I have found that draping surveyors tape overhead helps a lot to deter, as the hawks can't work out what looks like a safe land and take off path. It's not perfect, but they actually NEST in my yard and are EVERYWHERE here, and it has really helped. You can usually find the rally bright ugly stuff at Lowes/Home Depot - I ordered green surveyor tape on Amazon and my eyeballs have stopped bleeding now...![]()
These are unbelievably adorable pics - thanks so much for sharing them! (I especially like the pig photo!!!!!)![]()
Miracle Max, to the rescue...But mostly dead is slightly alive!
You're doing your best to ensure that they are safe at night. Don't feel bad - you can only do what you can do.I just still feel terrible. I just lost my temper. I am trying to let them out in the run, but the only part they can access right now since the rest is in progress mostly under the coop. Third time was not the charm for me.No
And stop feeling bad about it!![]()

My 10 newest chicks hatched May 23rd
Don't feel bad for hosing them trying to get them to go in the coop at night. When I get frustrated & give up ( or stay out to late & don't chase them in the coop on time) 1 of the pullets usually gets eaten or killed by a predator. The ironic/funny part is that after that they all go in the coop all on their own every night!Night all, I have to be up just after 4.
