I finally got the pasty butts cleaned! I did trim some bottom fluff as well. I have notice that one of them has a really hard time pooping. I can see the vent protrude and can tell it is pushing hard and if anything comes out, it is a greenish black log. Anyone know what's up with that?

Not getting enough water?? I know babies first poops are blackish green and like tar....not sure if it works on chicks but a little tummy massage works wonders on kittens and babies IME.

And here is Sexy's egg. She has the most wonderfully thick bloom on all her eggs! If you wash them, they become a dark brown.

@Sally Sunshine My chicks are suuuuuper skiddish. Is that a normal personality trait for these varieties? They must think I am medusa come to eat their little selves up! LOL.

What are you using as a heat source? What is the temp?
I had problems with thick poops/ pasty butt when my brooder temps were too high.
I went with a brooder plate and have not had any issues since

Beautiful egg!! I've been feeling this specific one a soupy mixture of water, avc, poultry vits, starter feed, and scrambled egg because she had been lethargic the first day. I would hope with that mix she would be getting enough water but maybe I need to get her to drink more. Yeah I would think a tummy rub would help. I Was giving her a booty rub while I was cleaning her off.

I have been using a heat lamp and the thermometer is showing 88-92 depending on where with in the warm area. Should I have it lower? I thought they needed it closer to 95
