ugh. I have now lost 3 chicks in about 7 days. I can't think of what it was.
Sorry!! I hope the rest stay healthy.

I'm finding that I've been losing 1 or 2 chicks from every couple batches. I'm sad because I hatched 4 out of 12 Polish. 1 has a crossed beak and the other 3 died, one after another. I just think it was bad stock. I got the eggs off of ebay. The crossed beak one sits up on the edge of it's brooder, or on top of the water or feed and sits there looking like a vulture.

I hope that you don't lose anymore!!!

Help!

Came home, checked eggs and found this... Is it an oozing egg?!? Candled but these are so dark I can't see. The spots are hard like dried up glue. Do I need to take it out!?! What if it's alive still? Tomorrow is lockdown.

If an egg that dark is cracked and you candle it....you'll see the cracks. If it doesn't stink, I'd lock it down.

Hello!
Has anyone ever hatched eggs that have been in the refrigerator? I took ten of my freshest eggs out of the fridge to hatch when eight of my chickens were killed by a fox last Tuesday, but d'ya think they'll hatch?
I'm candling tonight (day 7), whenever it finally gets dark. I'll see what I have so far!

I have had some hatch! Hopefully before you put them in the incubator you let them come to room temp. If not it should be ok, good luck!

There is a whole thread on hatching eggs from Trader Joe's. I have yet to try it, but I think you should be ok!!!

I'm really sorry about the fox attack!!! I hope he isn't still a problem!!!

Good luck!!!

Thanks. Yeah, they sat out for a couple days while I got the bator ready. Unfortunately, water was condensing on them while they sat out ... I wish there was an easy way to slowly warm up the eggs!

Thank you. We're still trying to catch the fox, but I am keeping an eye on the chickens so it doesn't happen again. I've got to do some serious predator proofing, too!

That's good to hear. I was afraid I wouldn't get any to hatch since, on top of this, I don't have a good hygrometer yet, and this is only my second time hatching eggs so I lack the experience that I feel is probably necessary for a good result. We'll see how it goes ...

Well this chicken math is something. I got my eggs this morning from the post office, you know the ones I won in the auction. My first shipped eggs. Woo hoo.. I opened and checked their tops. I couldn't understand the code on them. Didn't make sense for what I ordered. Well guess what???! I got sent the wrong eggs. So now I am the owner of 19 various Orpington eggs. The ones I ordered will be sent tonight. So I am going to have 15 plus 19 eggs in my Bators. looks like I got sent some really nice colors. We shall see.
lol! Yay bonus eggs!!

If it doesn't stink leave it, I'd put as far away from the others as possible but I'd leave it. Good luck!!

lots of people do it! Good luck!!!

I did last year with some barnyard mix eggs. I pulled 8 out of the fridge to 'top off' the bator. The oldest had been in the fridge for 3 days. I let them sit out overnight and put them in the next morning. All 8 hatched! I've also seen people hatch Trader Joes eggs. Good luck!
