They just drop over dead? We are losing chicks but they keep running out of the pen on the grass were the dogs are. I think the dogs are eating them. We have fixed the pen so they can't get out.

yep. they are doing great and then dead.

I'm finding that I've been losing 1 or 2 chicks from every couple batches. I'm sad because I hatched 4 out of 12 Polish. 1 has a crossed beak and the other 3 died, one after another. I just think it was bad stock. I got the eggs off of ebay. The crossed beak one sits up on the edge of it's brooder, or on top of the water or feed and sits there looking like a vulture.



I hope that you don't lose anymore!!!

thank you. it does sound like bad stock. these chicks where all from different birds, and have sisters and brothers that are healthy

Hello!
Has anyone ever hatched eggs that have been in the refrigerator? I took ten of my freshest eggs out of the fridge to hatch when eight of my chickens were killed by a fox last Tuesday, but d'ya think they'll hatch?
I'm candling tonight (day 7), whenever it finally gets dark. I'll see what I have so far!​

I just candled my eggs, and I'm really confused. It is day 7 now, but all I'm seeing is a dark shadow on the top 3/4-1/2 part of the egg. I may have seen movement in one, but it also could have just been because I had just set it down. Please tell me they're not all dead embryos or infertile! Could it be too early/late to see blood vessels yet? I can't see inside my two blue eggs, but I'm guessing they're the same as the other eight. (Any ideas how to candle blue eggs?)
What's wrong with these eggs?!
