Going out to open up the coop, then going back to bed for a couple hours; didn't sleep fast enough last night.

She stayed close, but the chick has to go under her first or else it will get cold. Momma won't run over and sit on them!

Quite pitiful, actually, seeing Hennypenny be SO happy she had a chick again, calling it over to food and everything, and the little thing just high tailing it out of there.

I might just have to break them now, as I'd like to follow through with these eggs and finish in this incubator, but can't give them more eggs as poor hennypenny has been sitting for well over two months now.

Lumens is the measurement of how bright the light is. I'm not sure why there would be a dark shadow- can you see the air cell? You are candling top down, right?

Oops, no, I forgot that! I shouldn't've trusted my memory when I decided to hatch - the last time I hatched was 2 yrs. ago! Time to research .... will get some pics as soon as it gets dark.

be careful with that candler you made, it will get hot and could start a fire but should work fine, try turning the flash of on your phone

Yeah, I could feel the heat, so I had to candle the eggs quickly. Is it OK that they will be upside down when I candle them? That doesn't sound like it's good for them.
