When my hens have access to the garden, they do eat the bugs, but they also eat the produce. If they have access, I get zero tomatoes, they get all of them. My 6 hens at the time ate about 20 pumpkins in 6 hours.

My hens are ruining our wanna-be garden. They're trying to eat all the seeds we planted! I guess it depends on what's in the garden, though.

Oh no! Yea I think I'm going to let them go to town over there then tomorrow seeds or whatever in and then after things come in well maybe they can hang out over there pre produce, maybe chicks? Like 7 weekers? I'm really worried about the seeds, i don't want them to touch them!

Call me crazy, but .... I was wondering what my ducks really eat so I tried a piece of their food hide ) and YUCK! I can't believe they eat that stuff!   Kinda tastes like what it smells like except it also tastes stale.
I now recommend that you all try some of your ducks food and adjust their diets accordingly! jk

I can't think of how, though.  That's no good. Oooh I know I can get a giant pea and drive it around so all the ducks will come and follow me! That is the best plan ever!

Puppy says hi. Wounds are healing quickly, she'd be back outside already if it weren't for the flies.


She's the most friendly bird I have - she was the first chick named, because when I came to the edge of the brooder as early as <1 week she came running to me. She knows her name and to this day comes running when I yell "Puppy" and then looks up at me waiting for me to pick her up (usually because she has escaped her paddock again

). She loves having her earlobes rubbed - likes having her belly rubbed as well.



Really glad I built that brooder and left it put together - it's been great to be able to put injured birds in there at a moment's notice, and the increased height makes it easier to check on them.

To whom it may concern,
I was not given a post number, but I have been told in emails and text messages that a new member was attacked because a member thought it was me.
I was off-line because I was trying to deal with things here. Being on BYC was not something that was going to help me deal with problems in my life.
I hope that no one else will go after some new member thinking it is me playing games. That was very unfair.

I hatched Ayem Cemani eggs I got off of Ebay. 4 of the 6 hatched. They are a silvery black and 2 of them have lighter patches on their wing tips. Anyone else that has Ayem Cemani, is that normal? They are beautiful!!!

What are you going to do with it now? Give it to one of those broody hens?

I just put 7 eggs under a broody hen. Ideally I will put them somewhere else around day 18 so they don't fall out of the box she's in if they hatch. Is 7 too many? Shes a Swedish flower hen so she's pretty little... Do those of you who use broody hens put them somewhere specific or ? I hope my other bird will be back out in the coop by the time they're developing, is it ok to move them later? My other hens foot is looking about 1/2 as swollen so I think she's going to be ok but one of my buff orps is just laying around and really pale. I tried having her walk the yard and I brought her inside because I can't tell if she's broody, sick, egg bound... We gave her a little corid because her tail was down and she just looked miserable I went to sick but it's been 5 days and she looks the same. Not a peep and she's not moving around ... Thoughts?

Seven should be a good number. Personally I never move my broody hens, others do.

No goat news! Sorry I forgot who asked.

I haven't put hands on her in two days, so I need to make an effort to do that.

Roxie nearly strangled herself on muscadine vines a few days ago. My farm friend up the road was here, and we were outside visiting so luckily I saw it just as it happened. Farm friend said I need to worm everyone, so that's on my list now.

It's been a long day of waiting here!

One chick out, the other hasn't made any progress. The first one broke free around 9:15 this morning with half the yolk unabsorbed, it turned and flipped and went all over and it eventually broke free, the yolk stayed in shell.

The other one, has a yellowish liquid dried around the pip... Does this mean it needs help!?
