Chests are more efficient but uprights are SOOO much more convenient to use.
My old upright freezer was the one that recently failed - it wasn't unexpected, made strange noises. I have a new upright that I like that works well. But I put up enough chicken and other stuff that I'm actually considering getting a chest freezer in addition, and the current working upright is pretty full... Hmmmmm....

Anyways out of 23 birds I kept 2. 21 processed and in camp fridge for the week. 6 yesterday rest today. Still have to feed and collect eggs but that's the easy part of day. It's 103 outside. Felt much cooler in the breeze way where I was processing.
Wow, you've done a LOT of work this weekend! Good job at that! (Makes me tired just thinking about it!) You skinned them, right? (So much faster...)

Here's hoping you cool down and get some rest. I'm done scrubbing out the waterers. I had hoped to also refresh the bedding in the coops but it got too hot before I could start, so that'll have to happen next weekend. Likewise, rather than cleaning out the fridge, I slept. Maybe I'll get a second wind this evening... (Or not...)

Does anyone here like data? Well, just for fun, here are the weights of the boys in the Frat House at 16 weeks, and then the 17 week weights of the ones I kept (plus the GNH pullets and General Lee). Just looking at the two graphs I breathe a sign of relief at finally culling the non-keeper boys...

OK, never mind, BYC won't let me upload the 16 week ones, but I uploaded the 17 week data earlier today, so it let me use that - here it is. The light grey three at the top are the hatchery Naked Neck cockerel growth charts form last year for reference (Tank, Snape, and Apoc, who got culled) - they're huge. The orange lines are the three remaining German New Hampshire boys (the fourth had a slight cross beak and got culled yesterday). The dark red is Chunky Monkey the splash copper maran, who is apparently now top of the pecking order by his behavior. Purple is General Robert E Lee the lavender ameraucana cockerel, and the lowest are the GNH pullets. I don't weigh the egg layers (Cream Legbars, Marans girls) because I don't need to make decisions on them based on weight/growth and it's too stressful to them to do it without good reason.

(I hope they fix this BYC stuff... It's stable a lot of the time, I should be thankful, but I get used to it working well, and then it's frustrating when it doesn't...)

I had actually been wondering about that...... Is BYC getting too big to handle? :/
Hi Banti sweets, you keeping cool?

Ok, I wondered!   I tried to post some photos on my state thread, says, they are too big!  No bigger than I usually post.  ??

Plus Banty, I just had to refresh to post that to you.

Stupid question - has anyone reported the issues?

(I don't know where/how...)

Yup
