Try some of the Mediterranean breeds, they lay very well and are much better in heat than American, English and Continental breeds.
My favorites are Penedesencas, Minorcas and Anconas. Leghorns, Catalanas and Spanish are good choices too.
When we try other breeds when our flock gets smaller again, I'll look into some of those. For us, it's not just the heat, it's the humidity. We get heats in the 100-110 ranges, but then add in 40-80% humidity... and our poor birds aren't happy.

We freeze gallon jugs and put that out there for them to lay on along with refilling the pool to make sure the water stays cool, plus mist all the dirt/ground to help cool it off.

X2..... Had white leghorns, I loved them. Woulda gotten more 'cept the feed store was always outa em whenever I went into town.

If you want heat tolerant, get OEGB... Mine start complaining about cold when it gets into the sixties!

They're happy as clams in hot weather....

ETA: I thought EE were best for cold climates?? @kajira
I talked fairly extensively with cackle hatchery before I ordered them, and they recommended the EE's for heat too, not just cold weather.
Our newest batch, are bantam cochins, polish crested, and 2 redsex links, along with 2 silkies... that were all recommended for heat.

Good to know!

Quote: I've been known to do that. When I was working, I'd sometimes wake up after only a couple of hours of sleep. I'd shower, shave, dress, and even eat breakfast once or twice; ready to head out the door before I realized I was 3-4 hours ahead of schedule. Then, of course, I couldn't get back to sleep.

If I'm going on a trip the next day, like to WI, it's a waste of time to go to bed the night before; anticipation keeps me awake.
I'll usually hit the road and drive til I get tired, then pull into a truck stop or rest area for a couple hours. Sometimes I'll drive straight through, depending on how I'm feeling.

Thoughts for worming a multi aged flock. We found round worms when butchering a couple of our Bielefelder roosters, if they have them, I'm sure the whole flock does.
I have Pig Swig (Piperazine(Wazine) which is a liquid added to water, or I have Rooster Booster multi-wormer triple action (Hygromycin B in a feed concentrate and vitamin supplement) which you add to feed.
Which products have you used and had success with?
Did you ask Kathy on her worming thread?

@Pensmaster

 Howdy!
Hope you've sufficiently recovered from yesterday's unplanned adventure and don't have to go back in.

Got another question for you:
I'm going to need more nails for the nailer soon. Do you prefer one brand over another for 3" nails?
I just ordered 1,000  21* Hitachi's

Morning Whites
Doing ok from yesterday's escapades. Sore but that's normal. Should cut the rest of the wall open as I'm sure it got wet as well. So yes probably still going in.

I'm not up on which nails work best. Last I used one was the remodel of this place 16 years ago. I think both guns were bought at Home Depot. Both the coil and framing guns did well.
