Yes, the female mind... quite amazing huh?

But I can't hide things from my husband so this morning, after my post, I confessed to him about putting in those eggs... Lol...
Confession is good for the soul, "they say". Besides, it's sometimes easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Lazy...the temp are stable in the garage....only time really affected if it gets really cold but other than that not really. It's savannah in the fall.....we are still sitting pretty at 70+ degrees.
Good. Enjoy your Savannah! Do me a favor, and eat some real oranges for me this season.

We just lis one of our chickens to a chicken hawk.It ripped the head clean of the poor thing. My dad is out there with the shotgun ready for it to come back to get it.
I lost 2 to Northern Goshawks this season. Vicious nasty creatures.

I am a firm believer in the more you mess with eggs, the more you mess with chicks,

Scan the threads and see how many people have dropped an egg while candling, And then see how many have killed 3 or more by dropping onto other eggs - i am guilty. Add that to the possibility of increasing the chance of the introduction of bacteria and....

I prefer to candle on day 10 for viability - and pull the clears, then on day 18 for incubation failures.

If you will change your incubation plan based on more frequent candling, then go for it. If not, go plant a garden, make a quilt or design an android app for 3 more days.
Excellent advice, and I really, really do agree with you. But, I console myself in my candling addiction with the knowledge that I can candle without picking them up out of the bator some times, and I only do one a day, so I spread out the "touching" issue between every member of the clutch.

Had a rough day with sick kiddos.  Lots of high temps, snot noses and grouchiness all around.  Thank goodness the spouse took the kids for a drive so I could wind down and not go crazy.   The eggs are looking good, though the brinsea was a little cool when I checked it (at 99.5 instead of 100)  which is probably because we were all hot hot hot from fever and turned the house temp down.  Gah!   I need a magic wand to prestidigitate the house!

I can relate and sympathize with you! My kids are fiiiiinaaaally getting over all their 3 week marathon of various colds, flu, etc. Hope your family is feeling better soon!

Man! I didn't even know today was Friday the 13th until I read it on another thread. Yaay, it's almost over now, no mishaps that I can think of, just not a good day, but an ok day. And, that's ok!

The convo and picture sharing of the white spotted chicks is quite perfect in the case if one of the little almost 8 week old chicks we have that has so far survived the cocci outbreak that claimed three of her(hoping her?) siblings. She is a 50% English black/lavender split Orpington over a white mixed mother that lays light pink eggs. Mother may have some Leghorn. Curiously since her last nolt that she just finished I've been told the hen has one half black or dark blue feather.

This is Jasmine at a week old:

This is Jasmine a little less than a week ago(a day or two before the cocci struck)(I would appreciate any other ideas anyone has whether agreeing or disagreeing about his/her gender) :

Not all of her spots show in these photos in addition she has gotten more since then. As you can see she was an all white chick. I can't wait to see how she'll turn out.

I woke up this morning, so it was a good day from the get-go; anything since is icing on the cake

Wow, I got candle of the year?! Thanks Miss @Sally Sunshine!

So interesting development here on my front...

Wasn't it just a few days ago that @Hawk12was telling us about her husband having the "talk" with her about her "obsession?" And as I read her post I was thinking to myself how fortunate I've been that my husband has let me go about this "thing" so freely... Then lo and behold, two nights ago he inquired about my chicken math... And then gave me a talking to since we have 5 3-week old chicks in the brooder and 10 eggs set to hatch soon... And just where was I planning on putting all these chickens? I told him he needed to build me another coop!

Wrong answer. Well, Miss @Sally Sunshine, no bear came by but apparently Mr. Bobcat paid us a visit sometime yesterday as I was missing one girl at closing time. We walked around the house and found the trail of feathers...

So what did I do last night? Maybe it was out of rebellion after our talk... Maybe it was because I lost a girl last night... Or maybe it was the addiction... But I put in the last Silkie egg and 3 LF eggs into the incubator (because the Silkie would need friends)!

And no, he doesn't know!

I'm telling myself it's an experiment to see how the eggs handle staggered hatching!

Sorry about your loss :( If it makes you feel any better, I support your decision to put in more eggs ;)
