Had a rough day with sick kiddos. Lots of high temps, snot noses and grouchiness all around. Thank goodness the spouse took the kids for a drive so I could wind down and not go crazy. The eggs are looking good, though the brinsea was a little cool when I checked it (at 99.5 instead of 100) which is probably because we were all hot hot hot from fever and turned the house temp down. Gah! I need a magic wand to prestidigitate the house!

So sorry for the kiddos I pray they are better by morning

I am not sure whats up, but my kids have been driving me insane lately and its not being sick trust me! ughhh

I have never used a Brinsea but all incubators vary in temp. The thermostats I use have a min of 0.3C between the temp it powers off at until the temp it powers on at.

There is also no heat source that I hav available that does not stay hot a few seconds longer so My bator, set at 38.1 will initiate heating at 37.8 but the temp will first drop to 37.5 before climbing to 38.1 where the power gets cut. The temp then climbs to 38.4 or so.and begins to drift down to start the cycle again

The egg temp is the important thing. I will put a water wiggler with a probe inside in the bator at several levels to check the egg temps.

btw: if you can tell the difference between 99.5 and 100 by touch, you are very unusual.

just for fun, try this http://www.thenakedscientists.com/H...igating-temperature-sensation-and-adaptation/
I remember do that in elementary school now that you posted that!

The convo and picture sharing of the white spotted chicks is quite perfect in the case if one of the little almost 8 week old chicks we have that has so far survived the cocci outbreak that claimed three of her(hoping her?) siblings. She is a 50% English black/lavender split Orpington over a white mixed mother that lays light pink eggs. Mother may have some Leghorn. Curiously since her last nolt that she just finished I've been told the hen has one half black or dark blue feather.

This is Jasmine at a week old:

This is Jasmine a little less than a week ago(a day or two before the cocci struck)(I would appreciate any other ideas anyone has whether agreeing or disagreeing about his/her gender) :

growing fast! Everyone is doing better I pray?

I woke up this morning, so it was a good day from the get-go; anything since is icing on the cake

Lol no... He actually inquired about the staggered hatch process (of course he didn't know that's the term, lol)... And then he called me some names... Like crazy chicken lady... But he did end it by saying, I guess that's better than a crazy cat lady... Lol.

Haha...I have that same nickname in my household. And I'm proud to have it :)

Hi @Sally Sunshine I just found this thread and am very excited about it! I have read & used your advice before on incubating & hatching eggs (with great results) : )
I have 10 eggs in the incubator that are due to hatch on the 21st of November. They are all green or blue eggs sired by my Ameracuana (EE?) rooster that I just had to cull. He was 4 years old & ended up with wry neck. I think he had an ear infection but no matter what I tried he wasn't getting better. So, even though I usually hope for a lot of pullets, this time I am hoping for a cockerel or 3 so that I can raise his replacement.

Also, I hope you don't mind, I attached a link from your 1st post on this thread to a thread I started a while back (last year, maybe) about whether or not you could use acorns for chicken food. I referenced getting the link from your post. I'm hoping that you are like me in that you just want to get the information out there. Any way, at the time ( just a short while ago, when I did it) I hadn't thought about asking you FIRST if it was okay or not. So, I'm hoping I didn't mess up! If I did, please let me know.
