My eggs are do on the 21 too. That's crazy. But SALLY SUNSHINE,today is day 13 and I candled all my eggs again we had one quieter.Which people say not to wash eggs, well the only one that was a quieter was the one that was not washed. But I have a question, should the eggs be dark or hard to see threw because it isn't, the baby's aren't making the eggs hard to see threw.
Sorry I haven't updated in a while! My 3 are going into lockdown after work tonight, hoping for good candling from them and that they're still kicking.
The other 10 araucana eggs I haven't candled since moving them to the turner. Will be candling tonight to see!
But no funky smells (yet).
THEN I got 18 (!!!!!) more Marans eggs (oops how did that happen?!) that I put in the incubator on... Monday I think?? So those will be put on the turner tonight, since it is at their 4 days of stabilizing. Granted I only put 16 in the bator... 2 were pretty gnarly so I passed on those. I'm sure I could have selectively excluded more, but... you know how it goes
Just a little update - Day 20 here. VERY quickly checked the three silkie eggs; all chicks alive but no internal pips yet. Guess I'll be sat next to the bater ALL weekend, ears alert for that first squeak!
Everything is pretty upside down on our side of the Atlantic. Husband considered sending me home to Texas and he's talking about possibly getting a firearm. Pray for Paris and pray for Europe.
Just subscribed! Love the thread, great to know there are so many other hatchaholics out there. On day 20 of a hatch of 12 Americana /Easter eggers, one healthy escapee and two more pipping this morning!
welcome to all the new hatchers, and to everyone new to BYC too! you will love it here!
I pray the world may see a better day. May we all have peace
I will skim through last eves posts and try to update as quick as I can before I run out this morning!
I hope everyone has a wonderful saturday, that wind we had yesterday took all but a few leaves down, it sure is lookin like Winter now! time for the snow boots!
Hi @Sally Sunshine I just found this thread and am very excited about it! I have read & used your advice before on incubating & hatching eggs (with great results) : )
I have 10 eggs in the incubator that are due to hatch on the 21st of November. They are all green or blue eggs sired by my Ameracuana (EE?) rooster that I just had to cull. He was 4 years old & ended up with wry neck. I think he had an ear infection but no matter what I tried he wasn't getting better. So, even though I usually hope for a lot of pullets, this time I am hoping for a cockerel or 3 so that I can raise his replacement.
Also, I hope you don't mind, I attached a link from your 1st post on this thread to a thread I started a while back (last year, maybe) about whether or not you could use acorns for chicken food. I referenced getting the link from your post. I'm hoping that you are like me in that you just want to get the information out there. Any way, at the time ( just a short while ago, when I did it) I hadn't thought about asking you FIRST if it was okay or not. So, I'm hoping I didn't mess up! If I did, please let me know.
Welcome!!! so glad you found them helpful! sorry you had to cull him! what a bummer the poor guy I just hatched for roosters too, and sold off all my pullets, sometimes you just gotta have the boys ya know. its just a link have at it! I put info and share what I learn to help others, I am not selfish or stingy, copy paste do whatever you need to do to help or show others to help.
and a ton of our hatches are due the same time yours are, and mine are as well, I just candled and mine are still all viable.
I have a few more than 10, but I didnt count them, but I do have 4 serama left in there, I found a hen sitting on some eggs and had to throw them in with my CCL eggs. not sure how they will do at low humidity but air cells are not too bad so far so next week will tell

this hug just does not seem near enough for my feelings. We are way ahead of you on the firearms and I am sure your family is here as well. It is such a sad thing my friend. There are sad things here as well, you know my older sons went to penn state, now with all these shootings at schools I fear setting my childrens minds for college! It should not be this way, if I send my child to school I would want someone to protect them! I am so so sad so sad prayers for everyone
