I didn't see this post earlier, sorry!! Dangit, that sucks! Ugh, it's awful that the things to help us also hinder us as well... do you have an old style annoying egg timer? When you candle, set it for just a bit past the time it takes to candle... tape a note to it saying "Let There Be Light!" or anything to remind you to twist those babies back on... just a tip, but sometimes those little things help...

I just candled them, I had a ton of death its amazing how you can see them dead better than alive this early. I think I have 17 still alive and one questionable. the rest I threw out . less than half dead more half unferts... I am an idiot plain simple.

@RavynFallen

Question for anyone..... I never had a fertility issue...... SO I switched roosters a week ago, how long until I should try to set a new batch of eggs to check them again?

It's never easy to accept making mistakes, but unfortunately, making mistakes is something we humans constantly do. Our hectic lifestyles tend to fog our brains, and sometimes we just get ahead of ourselves. I catch myself thinking of things I need to be doing while I'm doing something else, and little things get overlooked. It never gets any easier to accept, and in my case, I find it happening more often. With all that's going on these days, it's hard to stay focused. I know you're probably disappointed with yourself, and perhaps a little angry too, but that's just how we are. While it doesn't fix the problem, I've learned to accept my mistakes and move on. The past is the past, and dwelling on it isn't going to change what happened. When we make mistakes, we learn how to avoid doing it again in the future. We're never to old to learn...

Back to writing... scribble scribble scribble.
what are you writing? if I can be so nosey @perchie.girl

Argh. So frustrating, my husband thought it was zipping, but it just made a larger hole. But I am concerned because the membrane looks like it is starting to dry out and turn yellow. I will be going to bed in a few minutes, the baby is still cheeping away. I hope it will be out by morning so I don't have to worry.

ETA: Humidity is at 72% currently, hasn't dropped below 68%, so it shouldn't be drying out so early... right?? It's only been pipped for ~6 hours....
update? you cant tell from that pip if its membrane is dried out. 99% of the time, if they externally pip they hatch! as long as you keep the bator closed and up the humidity! the pip areas do get dried out looking, thats normal.

Guide to ASSISTED Hatching

How's this little one going? I've noticed the membrane turning yellow around the holes on several of my eggs and they've always hatched fine. Hope this chickie gets out.

Still no sign of a hatch here. Day 22 now. I candled one egg quickly yesterday and it was moving, but there was no signs of a pip. I've never had eggs hatch so late before. There was ONE period where the electricity went off for about 20 minutes during incubation, but that shouldn't make a massive difference should it? I don't want to open the bater and candle again yet - I'm just desperate for some signs of life!
I would probably investigate if its day 22 use a damp hot rag and wipe side of bator or mist it just dont get eggs wet (for instant boost of humidity) see whats going on for a quick candle on a few. see if you have internals or life.
Are you certain temps were proper and do you have images of your air cells at day 18 for us to see?

I've just had a quick look - egg 1 & 3 show no movement and are in the same position as yesterday; I think they may have quit. Egg 2 has a lot of movement but no pip still; this chick is taking its sweet time!!

I forgot to mark the air cells at day 18 so have nothing to show. Next time!

the Brinsea is very well rated, I like mine a lot. You can sometimes find them used for cheap which is always nice: )

@chicken hawk 33
@deserteggs22
X2
I got mine cheap for $25 on eBay :) just needed a new thermometer which was $9 from Brinsea. Mine has held temp perfectly. No fluctuations whatsoever. Eggs are going strong and I have to manually turn my eggs but it returns to set temp with a minute or 2.

Edited to add that was for chicken hawk and desert eggs :)

hello! I have always wanted to incubate some eggs from my flock, so i figured that now is the time! But the problem is, i don't have an incubator! What is the best incubator that you guys have had and had good luck with? Thanks!
You could buy, or if you like a challenge, you can make a very good incubator for about $20 - 25.00.
