Thought this would be a great time to show the new hatchers an actual timeline of a chick hatching (NOTE TIMES)

Quote: MONDAY 5 PM noticed external pip

TUESDAY DAY 20 9AM STILL RESTING,
hole slightly larger but chick is NOT zipping!

2 PM TUES. CHICK IS ALREADY OUT!
missed the last quick zipping!
Silky on the left, two CCL hatched at the same time!

ITS IMORTANT TO NOTE:
THIS CHICK TOOK WELL OVER 24 hours to hatch! and absolutely normal!

EXAMPLE of why I tell everyone if they have a malposition (pipped wrong end)
its chirping and getting air LET THEM ALONE just note the time and keep an eye on them!
These are usually the first pips you can see, because they are both the internal and external pips.
I got lucky to catch a video of one today....
EXCUSE the WHITE OUTS thats the bator lights kicking on and off sorry!

And this morning we have actual zippage. I look, and there are some dark feathers poking out... Play a cheeping sound and all of a sudden the egg kicks around because it's trying to get out! yay!

:thumbsup

@Sally Sunshine
Great video and info! Thanks!
I'm preparing myself to be patient as my first group goes into lockdown in 2 days!
I promise to let them do their thing and keep my paws off lol

Edited to correct tag. My phone is not cooperating this morning

I just candled them, I had a ton of death its amazing how you can see them dead better than alive this early. I think I have 17 still alive and one questionable. the rest I threw out . less than half dead more half unferts... I am an idiot plain simple.

@RavynFallen

Question for anyone..... I never had a fertility issue...... SO I switched roosters a week ago, how long until I should try to set a new batch of eggs to check them again?

Wow, sorry about those lost ones. But 17-18 is still good to work with!

Good question on fertility and changing roosters. I've heard that eggs can stay fertile after contact with a rooster for 3-4 weeks, right? But I have no idea when a new rooster's sperm would over-rule the old one. But you've got plenty of incubators, set some every week and try it!

see thats just it, it doesnt matter to over rule it, I just want fertility! she has four nice little roosters, we just culled 12 and sent a ton to auction with a friend!

Oh that's true, the other one wasn't getting it done. If it were me, I'd wait 2 or 3 egg cycles, then start testing them! Hopefully someone from the genetics threads will answer.

Did she choose the ones to cull? I can't even imagine culling one of those little cuties.
