I hope she makes it!!!!! She is looking g good to be opening her eyes!!!
I had an emergency this morning!!! I checked on my mom hen and the eggs at 7 and closed the mom in. Well she must have wanted to do her daily 15 min. leave the nest, and busted through the barrier I had keeping her in.the at 10:45 I went to check on her, and she was in the wrong nest box, and the incubator eggs I had put in with her were cold, (it is about 32 out) one had zipped and was still in egg. I put mom back on her eggs back, (I figure she should be good and stay with her eggs another 24 hrs. I brought in the zipped chick and popped off her egg. she was cold and not moving at all, I massaged her and called her Nancy, that is her egg name, and put a warm damp towel on her, I kept massaging her and peeped to her, she has been moving around a bit, you see this pic has a bit of movement. I am going to keep an eye on her.Poor baby! she is on heating pad
.How is this baby doing

Got my eggs ready for lock down. While I was drawing the line, saw something for the first time since I started hatching yrs. ago! The head and the beak! Soo cute, got one with a couple of toes showing too, they look fluffy. They should be! :) Click on the photos to see it better, that little one even open and closed it's beak while I was watching. Pretty cool for me, being a first.
Wow! Beautiful!

This is my first incubator and 2nd hatch only but after reading many others' horror stories about extreme fluctuating temps or the length of time it takes to restabilize, these are things I rarely or have never had to deal with on this machine... So I feel it's a pretty good machine and would totally recommend it... Also another note, I have 7/7 pips for the first batch of my staggered hatch! Here's hoping they all make it out ok.

Edited to add: oh yeah, and limit of 24 is also good to prevent too much chicken math! At least that's why I chose this one.

Ok I see

I actually give them a whole flake of Alfalfa to disassemble... they only eat the leaves but have a blast tearing it apart.
and green here is a very very very short season. So they get alfalfa shared from the goats.

deb

I'm not too far from Deb and we give our birds alfalfa also. Sometimes Teff hay. The ducks dabble in it, the chickens scratch it all over and eat it, and the Guineas and peacocks make it disappear. When the Guineas are laying, I put a flake of alfalfa in their nest box and they make a depression in it to lay their eggs in. It also has good calcium and protein for the birds....
