at 2-3 months you will see the long and pointed hackle feathers developing on the males.
  • The cockerels will start to develop combs at around 1 1/2 months in most breeds. It will start to redden in the males; the females will still be yellow.
Oh ok awesome , thank you

How many days do you all wait between hatches? If this one is done by Monday, when would you set again? I don't want to hold myself up for the Easter HAL!

@Sally Sunshine- is the 911 section on the first page? I'm looking now- just squeezing checking in between chores and running kids around!

Lol, I set every week! I do staggered hatches though. I incubate everything in the cabinet bator then move whatever is hatching to the hatcher every Tuesday. Once they're done, I clean it out and get temps stable again and ready for the next group to hatch :)

But if I was using one bator, I'd probably set again a day or two after the hatch is complete.

I'm like you, I have 2 incubators and my first hatch was only half the incubator. About half way through, I set more. When I moved the day 18 eggs over, I refill the empty spots. As I find clears, depending timing, I fill the slots.

@Sally Sunshine - is the 911 section on the first page? I'm looking now- just squeezing checking in between chores and running kids around!

Right now I have 21 empty slots. I'm planning on setting on Monday - for a Leap Year hatch. But, I have 8 moving to lockdown on the 12th, I'll set more when I take those out.

For the Easter HAL, I need to set eggs on 3/5. So, when I take out the 2/29 eggs, I'll leave those spots empty until 3/5.

Again, if I find any OBVIOUS clears when I candle, I'll fill those slots the next time I set eggs.
