I knew "defeatherer" wasn't the right word, but "plucker" just wouldn't come to mind
Did you see my edit???

I now have 2 batches of shipped eggs in my old bator. (Second batch went in a couple of hours ago.) Hubby finished the wiring on the new bator, and it's working up to speed. Any readers have tips for managing temps when using the STC 1000? I assume that I put the sensor at the top of the eggs, in the most central location, and check the periphery temps with my thermometer? I hope to move the shipped eggs over to the new bator this evening, and add my gender selected eggs also. Expecting to set: 9 + 13 shipped, and about 24 gender selected.
It will likely have to be calibrated. One of the settings is for calibration where you can offset the reading to the actual temperature. To do that you have to put the sensor next to a known accurate thermometer.
You can also adjust it for differential temperature. That's the spread from where it turns on to where it turns off.
Ignore the cooling settings.
Once you get it calibrated, then put the sensor on top of the eggs in the middle if it is still air. If forced air, placement is more forgiving.

help, ASAP I don't know if anyone is having the same trouble with these flying little gnat things that bite and suck blood. but here in Louisiana where we're at they're all around the chicken coop and we don't know what to do. We had our pair of Silkies out in the cage to get some grass.well just now I went to pick them up.and the flys where covering around his eyes Like crazy.sucking his blood.both of them.it's horrible what do I do.HELP ASAP he is weak
If you have an animal getting weak from biting insects, you have to remove said animal from the environment where it is happening. Bring the weak chickens indoors.

Try posting here. Perhaps someone closer to you has better answers.

my,papa does.idk if he has the problem too.it says there horrible with Silkies and drizzled and stuff
Sounds like breeds that shouldn't be raised in that climate.

It's been a busy Saturday, and I got a couple of things accomplished. One was this project. Can anyone guess what it is and what it's used for?

Plucker.
What do you do? Spin the chicken around it?

Help! So my chicks hatched first hatch it is amazing but I'm worried they can touch the heating element with their heads an I'm scared they will burn themselves? What do I do they have only been hatched for a few hours like 3-4

They're not stupid. If it hurts, they'll move away. If you can't help yourself, wrap the heat element in aluminum foil to provide some protection or raise the element.

I guessed it, but ya said it before I could.
You were missing??? :lau No wait... that was me! I've been out of pocket quite a bit the past few days. No one missed me... :hit
I am sure MCC did! She sure seems to need a lot of cold showers when you're around! :lau

A friend has a tub plucker that does two chickens at a time. She let me borrow it for a processing class I did here. It was such a labor saver. I still made each person pluck one by hand so they would realize how much work the machine saved.

Yay, that chick is finally quiet! And it isn't because it died!

I was really starting to get worried ........ Hey, maybe it will stay quiet. :fl
