Hi SallySunshine - I am incubating shipped eggs that are on day 8. I just candled them and marked the air cells and I have some that are saddle shaped but attached and some that are normal shaped but not completely attached. Is there still hope for the babies? They are alive at this point. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome your eggs have a great chance at hatching! there are many experienced hatchers posting and lurking that can pop on to help when needed on this thread, and many people that are learning from everyone elses questions and experiences as well!

what breeds did you buy?
have you incubated before?
how much do you know about incubation?
what type of bator are you using?
have you found the article I put all the info in to help others Hatching 101

She's a little toot.  If I put my hand down in the brooder she comes running.  I'm used the them running away, lol.  Well the other 8 didn't make it.  I did candle and eggtopsied.  2 early quitters and 3 DIS prolly day 19 I'm not really sure:hit No more shipped eggs for me.

Oh no! So sorry to hear that :-( I'm glad you have Tootie though. Sounds like she's turning out to be pretty special :)

@Sally Sunshine I quickly candled tonight when I got home. One internal pip & two un-pipped.

Welcome! @Hawk12looks like there are several of us also on the Thanksgiving hatch-a-long thread here :)

@Sally Sunshine Sorry I saw your question about my dog in my avatar- Sadie is a Pitbull to the best we can tell. She was a rescue and had been malnourished and left to suffer with a dislocated hip. We've had her 4 years now :) She and her BFF Bunny (one of our rescued cats) absolutely love each other.

Edited to correct tags (had to switch from mobile to desktop to do that correctly!)

Cgbond, that's the kind of Bator I have, but my hatch wasn't so successful. ..50% :( What do you use for a thermometor, and for a hygrometer? The bator's built in gages are way off...especially the humidity.

Hi! I Use a thermometer/hygrometer combo. It is an Avianweb mini I bought from Amazon. It seems to be working well. The Temp reads the same as the thermometer that came with my incubator. my first hatch was close to 90%. I Am on day 5 of my 2nd hatch, but they are shipped eggs. So I have my fingers crossed.

...temps at night...

Checked the temps when I got up to nurse the baby last night. Everything looked good!
I have the same kind of thermometer, but I'm not sure I can trust it. How do you use them?
I used mine as a general guideline to make sure my uglybator has not gone crazy, as our control thermometer does not have a readout. I like that they have the high/low section and large numbers so if I want to just take a fast peek in the 'uglybator I can get a general reading. It's not what we depend on though. As for humidity reading we mostly go by the air cell, and (again)
use the hydrometer as just a general guideline.

@Sally Sunshine , Thanks for the CoolerBator info! I really want one now! Do you happen to know how much power it takes to run one? We have an off grid home, so I'm limited on power usage. I'm glad to hear they are very stable temperature wise, my Foam incubator fluctuates as much as 10 degrees

We use an avianweb mini that came as an extra with our mini bator. I just calibrated it (stuck it in a baggie and then did the ice water method) and it was only .2 degress off

. I like how small and portable they are. You should try calibrating yours!

(I didn't actually change the numbers on mine, I just wrote how off it was and do the math to make it the appropriate temp.)
