I've heard that the phones work well. Wouldn't know. Granny and Grandpa here still use the flip phones. Love that I am not missing out on anything with those fancy phones. Can't miss something you don't know your missing.

Actually, I like mine with a single bulb better than the new ones with a bunch of little bulbs. Mini-MagLite. I taped a piece of craft foam to the top, with a hole cut in the foam, to soften it against the egg.

I do have a camera on my phone, & it don't flip...it slides to reveal a full keyboard for texting,,,but if I need a computer I go to my laptop, and it don't cost me a whole bunch every month.

You all need one like my DH made for me..out of a big ol bean can.  We put an floresent light in there..he put card board and then duct tape around .. and of course, and nice little hole in the middle of the card board.  I've been using it for around three yrs. now.  Works great!  Can see in those dark eggs pretty good, in the very beginning, and in the middle of time, I can see just barely above the air cell, if there are veins or. not.  In the end, you can see the whole black body moving.

That sounds awesome. I'd like to have one I can set the egg on and have free hands to mark air cells and take pictures :) My dh likes to make things like that so hopefully I can talk him into making me one for my next hatch!

No no no. I'm sorry for misleading there. This is just testing the systems of the incubator. I will then make sure it holds 99.5 - 100. I won't actually test this as an incubator until I get all the tests out of the way. Heat is a 100W bulb. I know I should have a backup based on Sally's plans, but I'm still testing whether these scrap materials can actually turn into a working bator.

Edited to add, I don't even have fertile eggs to test this on, so whether or not it actually hatches anything will not be known for a couple months.
glass loses heat very easy, you might put a wanted add on craigslist or free cycle to see if anyone had a free cooler. I received a bunch of really thick Styrofoam meat coolers that way. :)

This is a new chick from brown egg, I believe black star/EE 3/4 from ma hen are here, one white egg still zipping. then I have to wait till next week for incubator. in the light she looks a dark blue..can I hope?

interesting!!! keep updating us with this!!! :old

huge!!

I know!!!! I set the temp to 101.0 and it's one from incukit with the fan. It's only maintaining a temp around 99.5. Even though I upped the temp to 101.0. Do you think I could throw in the still air heater to help it up some??? Have 2 heaters one with a fan to help circulate the air??? Just a thought.

Lazy...the temp are stable in the garage....only time really affected if it gets really cold but other than that not really. It's savannah in the fall.....we are still sitting pretty at 70+ degrees.
