her daughter just laid her first egg.

My hatching eggs still haven't shipped. But I finally got my first eggs. My two Australorps that I got as chicks in May have finally started laying. I know they are not fertile because none of my Roos are old enough.

ps.... I have almost all mine externally pipped but still waiting on chicks! I have a bday party here for my Mom tonight, I will check back in later!!! I am ordering pizza and Ice cream cake, thas what she wanted, God I love my mom!

If not that, what about water pan waterers? Would that work in the same way?

Not sure what you're calling a water pan waterer. If you're just talking about a regular pan that you can fill with feed or water, it wouldn't warm up any more than the air around it, except for the body heat the birds produce, UNLESS there was a heating pad underneath it.

Got the generator back up about 10 hrs after our went down. I slept with a chick most of the night. My husband said I'm a better hen than him, I guess cleavage gives an upper hand as far as warmth for chicks. Dunno about the eggs, they got down to 65 before the generator was fixed, about 5 min before loading then into the car. A total of 5 trees were down on the property. 3 that are leaning pretty bad, will be coming down next wind storm. I know why our power is out up here: in one stretch of road within 1 mile there were 4 trees in the power lines, and then on one of the highways there was a half mile stretch where all powerlines were down on the ground. Fun times...

I am glad you got the generator back up and that chick is okay. Hope it continues to get better in your area, sounds pretty beat up, good luck.
