As posted previously, I have 17 (out of 18) viable BPR eggs in the bator as of 11/23 (day 7). Taking a little time today to build a brooder that will reside in my basement. It's a 4'x4'x2' brooder, and it will be divided in half for the first few weeks, and as the chicks grow, I'll remove the partition so they'll have plenty of room to roam around. I know I've read it somewhere, but how many large fowl chicks can 16 square feet hold up to 8 weeks? If all goes well, I should have a decent hatch, so I want to make sure I have plenty of room for them without having to expand...

I'm still in the process of building, but this is what I've got so far:

I'm paying attention...I got approval to take the old Depression-era coop that is just used for storage and turn it into a brooder house. It's about 8 x 12 so not too shabby, though it's falling apart and full of black walnuts that the squirrels have been storing for generations. I'll need to empty it, rebuild it, fumigate it and air it out before putting chicks in. But I don't just want a couple of floor runs, I want to do a brooder battery of some sort for easy handling.

The Brower brooder I just sold was 24 x 36 x 12 and said it would raise 100 chicks to 2 weeks, 50 to 4 weeks, and 25 to 8 weeks. Since you have 2.67 times the floor space, your maximum capacity should be about 66 chicks.

You sure do!! what are you going to do with all the chicks! @chicken hawk 33
