Definitely! Once you confirm that they are gone, still go in slowly. Through the air cell first, wet the membrane and feel for movement. I opened one one time and thought it was gone, sliced the membrane only to find a live one. Good luck!
I like it! Looks great! I might do something similar. I use puppy pads to start. Has worked well with most of my chicks. One set (can't remember which breed) picked at them quite a bit and I had to take the pads out, but it worked well for the others. So just keep an eye on them and make sure they don't pick at the "stuffing" in the pads. It didn't hurt mine, but it sure doesn't sound too appetizing, does it? LolInstalled a timer for the light, and hung the heater. Brooder is finished, with the exception of bedding. Need to move it into it's final resting spot, and run an extension cord. All in all, I'm pleased with how it turned out... and I'm my own worst critic. I plan to use absorbent pads the first few days until the chicks are eating good, then switch to pine shavings. Has anyone tried puppy pads for newly hatched chicks? They're more absorbent than paper towels, so I can't see why they won't work as well... or better.
