Mirror wouldn't hurt... might try an actual feather duster hung in the brooder too... sometimes they'll hide in it like momma when they sleep...
Ok. That I can do. At least until I can test my silkie hen in the morning and see if she would be up for the sudden job of raising a baby. Otherwise we will have a house chicken on our hands! :S I mean we want him/her to be friendly but we want her to be able to get along with the remaining yard chicken too.

Try the Silkie tomorrow, just make sure you stay close in case she really rejects it... if she does, it's a pain but possible to teach them they ARE a chicken, lol... once it's feathered enough and warm enough, put it in an enclosed cage near the others for 'visitations'... they get to know each other, but stay safe from harm... takes a while, but it's doable... I had a single Call duck hatch but made sure she knew she is a duck... she does really well with the flock or with us, spoiled rotten though, lol...

*can't spell* :/

The mirror and stuffed chickens seems to be holding him over for now. Since it isn't springtime and this was an emergency chick , I can't really just go to the store and buy a few more :S I could theoretically hatch another egg from my other chickens but that would take 3 weeks again. But maybe would work.

You can try craigslist. Sometimes you can find them there during the winter months.

Ok I'll give it a go. Poor thing. He loves my hand all ready and climbs right in if I put my hand in there. But he is cuddling with the two stuffed animals. and the mirror seems to help a little. Should get him by for night I guess.
