ALSO, my crested cream legbar pullet went missing this afternoon. No trace. All other chickens accounted for, no one seems upset. She was the only pullet in the run, the rest had stayed in the coop. Any ideas? No feather, no other losses, no one seems upset. Just POOF gone. Any ideas where a run away pullet would hide/ how far they roam??? I am very upset. I've put out a missing add and walked around the block without luck.

None new, most is melted here but the mountain is still covered. So pretty out the window!

I have one EE that has never laid an egg inside my coop, she jumps/flys out of the run over a 6 foot fence and goes across the yard to some railroad ties. Made a nice nest under there and that's where she hangs out for a few hours. But then she comes wandering back, asking to be let back in to the coop.

I hope nothing happened to yours and that you find her!!!

Well she's part of the batch that still can't figure out to go back into the coop at night, so I hand catch them every night and stick them back in. I do hope she comes back, but I don't know. Still no sign of her....

Like in the coop? There are pretty much no hiding places in the run or coop.(Any small ones) we are in town so there are lots of hiding places in the neighborhood...

I'm betting a hawk got your pullet. I lost a pup like that once. Another possibility is a coon, but not likely; they're nocturnal...not often active in daylight. I'd be covering the run with 1x2 welded wire ASAP; Lowes, Home Depot, and TSC all carry it.

Not surprised the remaining birds are not stressed. I think, though I may be wrong, that chickens, like dogs, don't have particularly long retention spans. I've found predator-killed hens in my first run, and the other birds acting totally normal.

Wouldn't a hawk leave feathers or a carcass??? I've never seen them here but it's a possibility.

I have watched hawks and eagles pluck some of my free range birds and take them to the neighbours fields. no evidence left behind.
