Lemme guess...that's about the time you took to raising chickensIt's not as complimented as it appears. Okay, maybe it is, but since I set it up in stages, it's not hard for me to know exactly what role each piece plays and how to keep it going. Somehow, in spite of me, it all works together. There are a lot of fully-automated systems that will monitor and maintain the system, but they're out of my reach. I normally spend about an hour each week maintaining it, but I'd skipped a couple of weeks, so it took longer today.
You should see the looks people give when they first see it. They think I've got a meth lab set up in my basement...![]()
There are much simpler (modular) setups than mine, but I went a little overboard to make it easier to keep up with maintenance... if you can believe that by looking at the pics. I mix my saltwater, drain the water, and refill the tanks from the basement. I have a 125 gallon reef tank directly above the "lab", and a 40 gallon semi-reef in another room. Both tanks are tied into this system, so when I do a water change, both tanks get fresh water.
