Good morning Aurora. I have a PRIR in heavy molt as well. Seems to be making it okay, but I was very worried about her for awhile. Been feeding her flock raiser crumbles (20% protein), and it seems to be helping. She's starting to feather out fairly well after a couple of weeks.

Glad to hear she's doing good :) I feed everyone about 22% protien at all times (easier to feed everyone the same thing). I saw her shake off this morning and feathers went everywhere! But then I saw a nice shiny, thick, layer of new feathers underneath. I'm sure she'll be fine, I just get cold easy and it makes me shiver just thinking about it lol.

I thought about boosting the protein full-time, but didn't want my layers to bulk up. I only bought the flock raiser to feed the young cockerels when I separate them from the pullets. I'd like a little extra meat on them before they go in the freezer...

Yes, she'll be fine. They've been molting for eons, but I have yet to figure out why it would happen in the middle of winter. Seems like summertime would be the perfect time...
