Yes - any instant read thermometer that will give you a reading at about 195-200F (not too fussy, just don't pull it out at 165F...). I ruined SO many loaves of bread, and was convinced I couldn't bake. Some folks "know" when it's done, I never did. This saved my "baking career".ahhhh I will try it again like that, you mean a meat thermo will work I guess?
hope she is ok![]()
I sympathize. My favorite is not getting over the ms. Her leg was getting stronger it looked like with the Tylan, but tonight I felt almost like a tumor on her right breast. I wanted to give the sickest one more dose, and tomorrow I will start worming. I am still undecided between 50-100 mg per bird orally of Wazine per my chicken health handbook or the suggested safeguard. I may split off the sickest and give them safeguard.
Good Evening everyone!
I went with Safeguard because it covers more things - I'll be using it on the others as well, I think, so they're all wormed for the same things at the same time. I have something crazy like 4 dozen eggs in the fridge, so I should be able to make it through withdrawal period. The lump on her right Brest might have been her crop and wazine is only for roundworms
Thanks, all. I found Kathy's excellent thread on taking care of an ill bird, did a more thorough examination, got a glove and checked for egg binding (nope), no injuries, and tried to test skin turgor as best I could under all those feathers (Kathy, where is best to test the turgor?) - I THINK it's ok or shows mild dehydration (understandable).I hope she gets better!!!
I really should have gotten those DVDs. I LOVED those shows.Too funny, I was just talking about Carol Burnett and I was watching Chips, that ended, and Mama's family started!!

Found this awesome grow out/extra coop today after realizing just how large my 2 boy and 4-5 girl Bielefelders will be! $75, never used! I am accepting suggestions on how to convert. First thing will be to add asphalt shingles to the roof... Then, I'm thinking just one nesting box added either where the one door is, or off one of the sides... Possibly having their ramp come up from the bottom...but I'm not sure how. @Pensmaster-aren't you the one doing all the coop building? @Sally Sunshine
Very nice and the little helper is ADORABLE!!!!

One yes, one not as much. Farm lady up the road thinks they're 2-3 months and close to weaned. But HER goat expert friend thinks they're 4 weeks, max. Just playing this by ear. You're very welcome....You get them to take the goat milk replacer from the bottle?
