I'm almost to the halfway point on your thread...hope most of the medical problems I'm reading about are in the rear-view mirror by now

Picking up about 8 dozen eggs tomorrow. Mottled turkeys, bielefelders, cream crested legbars (some from the Reese line), and blue egg laying black sex links. The turkeys will count for the hatch a long but there's no way I'm waiting till next week to set the chicken eggs. Putting my bator to the test

Can't blame you... sounds like some pricey chicken eggs!

Gotta say, it's funny how people keep referring to Reese line of CCL. This is the 2nd post this evening. E. W. Reese was famous for his line of "Mohawk" RIR, while Jill Rees of England is famous for her line of CCL. Not trying to be a smart aleck, just don't want the two to get confused...

Hmm. Set date for the HAL is the 5th. looks like I'm going to have to try a staggered hatch or scratch the HAL and set what I have and see how it works out.

Bad news folks. I've narrowed it down, and I think Mystique, one of my NN girls who I was CERTAIN I wanted to breed (big, gorgeous, has Fm traits), is laying these:









It's either her or the OTHER big beautiful NN girl I was sure to want to breed.

Can any one describe in more detail the whole food coloring on the vent thing for identifying who is laying what? I need to know who is laying these - they have all only been laying a few weeks, but who ever it is has laid a number of these now.

I'm still hoping she might outgrow it...

Lol, never even heard of E. W. Reese. Now I'll always be double checking what people are talking about! My plan is to pick the best from both lines and combine them together.

That is normal for new layers. It takes a bit for everything to even out.

You know, I think at least once when I was posting over on the Cream Legbar thread, the BYC autocorrect changed "Rees" to "Reese", so maybe that's it. (It also changes Legbar to "leggier" unless you capitalize it.)

Or not...

I personally am not a fan of the Rees line. My three girls are hatchery from a pre-Rees group, and the rooster is from a breeder, also non-Rees. There are a number of folks who don't want Rees blood in their CLs. I think it's because in some cases auto sexing and egg color (key elements of the breed) has been sacrificed for extra light coloring in adults for showing. (But JMHO...)
