Help!!! Just hatched this little one (literally seconds ago) and this is my first time. Is the placenta that is still attached to her normal??

I see MC answered your question.
That is normal in some chicks that are a bit eager to get out of their shell. It should dry and fall off shortly.
Many of us have had chicks drag that bit of shell around for a while. Just be observant that it doesn't snag or catch on anything and injure the chicks belly.
If it does start to bleed, use corn starch or dab with a dry paper towel to stop the bleeding.
There are commercially available powders for this as well, but I have had success most times with the corn starch.

Chickens only. LF and Bantam Cochins. I did have 3 hatch at 23 and 24 days.So how long should I let the rest sit till?

Did you perhaps miss count the weeks 28 days is too long. As MC says check for pips and recandle

I'm not here to tell anyone they aren't doing the right thing if they have problems culling. As I said, it's one of the hardest things I do and I put it off as long as possible - usually too long. But, taking one to a vet doesn't necessarily make it more humane nor quicker.
One can do it quickly at home for no money.
If I had to pay to do it, I couldn't keep chickens.

I didn't have a problem wringing a couple of cockerel's necks last weekend. I'm getting better at this culling business...

The one I was holding is the same egg in the center. I think if it's a new layer, or one coming off molt, the oviduct is a bit small. It'll pass...

I agree, I did just take a dead one to a vet, thinking they would do the necropsy. They spent 5 minutes talking to me about the situation the chicks are kept in- then saying he thought we'd be better off shipping the chick off for a free necropsy at UC Davis. Cost me $180. 70 for an office exam - new patient, remaining shipping charges for shipping the bird for me. Most expensive item - fed ex.

I will never use that vet....what kind of exam did they give a dead chick?????

MC is right... it should fall off. It looks a bit large for umbilical, so make sure the chick doesn't have an open navel once it comes off.

It's been 3 days since I have had any hatch from my incubator. My 1st incubation. Waiting until this coming Sunday to empty it. Temp and humidity are being held. Candled last week should have 4 more, day 28 is today. Any suggestions?

That's too long for chicken eggs. While they have been know to hatch this late, it normally ends up with a soon-to-be-dead chick. If it hasn't hatched by now, there's probably a good reason. A broody hen would have abandoned it days ago. Personally, I will never go past 23 days.

• Wow, that is CRAZY. I have to admit I freak out a little when I see all my other fish eating any dead ones in the tank, before I can fish them out. But, taking it to a vet? Seriously????.

Oooooohhhh...... I think I made a mistake.

I was digging holes for the blackberry bushes this evening - hard sweaty work, trying to go as fast as I could with no rest, trying to beat the light. I finally got all the holes dug, but only one planted before it got too dark to go on. I was both hungry and thirsty, and a little loopy to boot. So when I got inside, weirdly, I ended up reaching for whole milk instead of water. It was really good. And I was really really thirsty. So I drank more milk. And more...

Ummm... I drank almost half a gallon. At once. I feel... WEIRD. And way too full.

Guess I'm not having dinner tonight.

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier
I was at the doc about my ankle when you asked..
High ankle sprain, no breaks!
Using the boot when at home or driving. Major PITA when trying to accelerate or brake.
Got a 'soft brace' that I will have to wear for six to eight weeks, but at least it fits in shoes and my cowboy boots!
And more physio. My physio terrorist just smiled at me today when I walked in, didn't ask any questions, just read the docs referral, and then attempted to make me cry.
She almost succeeded.

Sorry about the news on your sister. It is not easy when those close to us start to fade, been there. Not fun, or comfortable to experience, especially with a sibling.

Also wanted to let you know the knife the dentist gave me is super sharp. Was using it for grafting the tomatoes set it on the paper towel and it cut the towel not poked cut. Will be using it for butcher day for sure.
