Whites...my husband is a mechanic...this is what he just said:

It's best to check with volt meter starting at battery. Make sure at least 12.4v. Then check voltage at solenoid making sure it's within .5v of battery voltage then check voltage at starter while cranking making sure battery voltage stays above 12.4
If all that checks out its the starter
Makes sense.
Was actually thinking of checking the solenoid with a screwdriver between the 2 posts...old trick I learned from working on my old Fords years ago. I guess I need to get a volt meter.

Milk... it does a body good!

Good night!!!

It does! It does! After initially being too full, I felt fine, and I then I woke up feeling great!

I gotta try to find somebody I can barter with for it.

Unfortunately, I have found that most folks that produce milk also have their own chickens and SELL eggs, rather than needing eggs. I have an indirect kind of thing set up instead - my friend, who gets raw milk from the same farmer that I do, buys extra milk for me, and then trades it to me for eggs.

It is super easy to candle the quail eggs this way

HUGE difference

That's really cool. Remind me again exactly what you did (if you don't mind)? I'd like to cut and paste it in a document, in case I ever get around to getting quails and start hatching...

LOL...this reminds me of my oldest and his homework last night!! His spelling word was "hope"...so he got "h-o-p" written and then he sat there thinking because he knew the word wasn't finished...and the hubs says "Hayden...we were just talking about this...what comes after p?" And Hayden sat there....thinking hard...& says "Q!" And of course hubs and are like..."Do you hear anything making a sound like Q in that word?"
(He's really good at spelling so we were thinking "Q???? Where did THAT come from?!"

And he says "No but you asked me what comes after P...& it's Q!" (We then realized he meant in the alphabet ...touché!!!)

Nice to have something to laugh about to help you (temporarily) forget about feeling rotten...

The latest group of chickies (2 weeks old) have just figured out the whole flying thing, and are flying back and forth in the brooder like little sparrows, just for the fun of doing it. (They're not doing it out of fear of me, they do it when they are playing and don't know I'm watching. They stop and try to look nonchalant when I come in.

). It's precious, but they are SO enthusiastic, I'm actually a bit worried they'll hurt themselves bouncing off the hardware cloth like that. I think that after this batch I may redo the brooder panels and cover with either that plastic hardware cloth or window screen instead of hardware cloth...

I think I meant to quote or respond to some other posts, but I can't remember or find them now... Oh well.

OK, I gotta head out. I have work, then a doctor's appointment (check up, but likely to involve waiting room time suck - bringing a book). Then chicken chores, then blackberry planting, then grading exams. I've also gotta round up my processing stuff (I don't keep it all set up) so I can get this mean cockerel processed in the next few days. So, busy, busy day.

Have a great day, everyone!!!

:duc  I think I'll just let that one lay there

I'm sorry.

Thank you - I still feel pretty awful but I feel horrible for my little guy...his fever was 104.8 this AM before we could get it back down. He slept better last night but it looks like it will still be a rough day for him at least.
I'm soooo ready for everyone to be well again!!!!!
