has anyone made a coop/house out of a 55 gal metal oil drum? I have TONS of the stupid things. I was thinking i would use one for the ducks my hubby doesn't know about yet

Never used metal ones, 'cause they'll rust (unless you paint them with a Rustolium-like product, and they seem like they'd transfer heat & cold. I have used whiskey barrels for dogs, screwing the bands in place so they don't loosen as the wood shrinks. Lots warmer & cooler than metal You'd have to wire-brush the insides, though, unless you like drunken ducks. You could also use a large igloo-type dog house, should work well

I dislike parrots very much and can understand your frustration. One of the girls at my office had one that grew up on cape cod and thought it was a seagull, can you imagine listening to seagull screeches all the time?

Yes, ducks can stay out all winter. They are better in the cold than chickens are.
My ducklings really are entertaining.
I know a lot of parrot jokes, but don't want to offend anyone.

When I first heard the ducks sound an alarm, I thought that the guineas from up the road had gotten into my yard again. When I looked out, and saw the ducklings I changed my mind. It turns out that it was the guineas that were bothering everyone. Also, the whole wall fell down, not just the door for the brooding area. I finally decided to guide the ducklings into a small run. I will decide sometime today if I just want to make that their run, and let them sleep in the initial duckpen. That would mean that they would have their own access to outside. It is times like this, that I wish I had someone here to see what I was talking about and give me their opinion.

Is the duckpen separate from the main coop?

Never incubated before. How did I do on equipment. $50 got me

2 little giant still air with rotating trays. One needs a little tlc, but I am sure I can get it to work fine.
1 rusted out water and 1 useable water
1 Water heat pan
And the coolest candler ever!
