So I've been feeding and sorta semi-adopted three feral cats that hang around because they help keep snakes away, I KNEW I should have caught them and had them spayed!!!! ALL THREE OF THEM had kittens in various places on our back porch last night...

At least there's no shortage of people needing barn cats here but good grief!!!? I counted I think 9 or 10 between two of the cats and I can't see the third one's kittens because she has them so well hidden that I can only hear them and can't get to where she had them.

Anyone wanna swing by for some kittens in about 8 weeks?!

Whenever we've tried to adopt a cat from the pound they make you sign something saying you won't make a barn cat out of them, and you can't have dogs. :idunno sure seems counter productive.

A friend at work said he saved a kitten from an attic and jokingly asked me if I want it. He was shocked that I said yes. That cat had kittens and we now have her a one of hers left. Can't tell them apart any more.

If I was closer.....

Wow how weird! Our humane society has cats coming out the roof and they just make sure they're all neutered or spayed and going to good homes but you can have dogs or even use them as mousers...doesn't really matter to them. They charge $60 to adopt a cat though so I think they assume they'll be well taken care of if someone is adopting for that much (BUT that's also why they have such a hard time adopting any out, because there's ton of feral and/or "country" cats around for free so not many people are looking to adopt a cat for $60 a pop.)

Here's a few crummy pics I could get lol (I have some outdoor feral cat shelters built out back and they used those but the other cat climbed into an enclosed exterior wall section of our house and I can't even see hers! )

Good morninig to you all early birds!
Here is our lunch
De boned chickens ( by me) staffed with spinach, mushrooms, onions, and pecans in its way to the oven.

That looks awesome and sounds yummy.

I've never cut a pig (won't have a hog on the place), but I've done a few goat kids. I never cut one, though, I'd band them. I guess you can castrate a pig the same way, can't you?
Not really, there's nothing to band. They're more internal and have to be squeezed out. At least they're internal until they grow up and then it's too late for the reason to do it in the first place.

Strange how each hatch the chicks/ducklings can act different.

...
That's for sure. Some batches can't wait to go outside and some are too scared to venture out for ages.

...

CH, I'm not a mind reader, but don't believe ChickenCanoe is trying to be mean to you, so don't ignore him when he patiently points out the errors in your posts. Many times a person's intelligence is judged (whether fairly or not) by the quality of their writing. Writing well is a valuable skill to have. If you read a lot (books, short stories, etc. - many are available for free online, or you can go to the library), it can help reinforce this in your head more easily than trying to just remember grammar rules.

Reading is good.
I too hope he doesn't take it the wrong way. I should probably ignore it but it makes it so difficult to read. It's different if one is writing in other than their native language.

There is a big difference to me between knowing I have mice in the barn, and actually seeing them. I think I will find some traps. Are the bait stations in the little plastic housing ok? I mean, is it OK if someone eats a dead mouse?
You do NOT want your chickens to eat a poisoned mouse, or your dogs, or cats. Traps are better, then the poisoned mouse cannot poison the next thing to eat it. I have seen my chickens ripping apart moles/mice before so it is possible that they could play with your poisoned mouse

YES PLEASE!! can you ship them to NH?? I cant find any barn cats around here, someone offered me a declawed 'barn' cat -Thats just cruel

Okay! I'm missed(yeay!) I'm sassy ( that does not sound good!) and everyone hopes Duckling feels better.
Did I miss anything when I was skimming through?
Always missed, sassy is good! don't think you missed much of anything

Duckling has been busy riding downhill in her wagon ( it belong to my nephew 18 years ago!) and chasing the baby animals around. She might be snotty, but she is still having fun!
Yayyy Duckling!!!

I am catching tons o blue crab behind my house right now.just over night I had 31 in the one and only trap I have
That's great! Good trapping.

Hey everybody, crab dinner at chicken hawk's house tonight!!!

#1 son got caught in Donner Pass in his big rig while a new driver. Yard guys hadn't made sure a good set of chains was on board, & the cops wouldn't let him move w/o them. He was able to make a passable set out of busted ones, got off the mountain, only to see residents mowing grass at the bottom!
That's good. Those April snow storms can be rugged.

I resemble this remark!!!

OK, off to go set out some fly traps - the main ingredients in the attractant are sucrose and "putrescent egg solids". Guess I know what to use to replace the attractant...

And yes, it really smells bad...

Thanks for the tip.

Okay, one of you DIY construction types, let me see if I can phrase this so one of you can understand:

Is there a right way & a wrong way to brace posts so they don't rack out of square?

I'm putting my new coop on 2' stilts, & i don't want them shifting.

Does it matter which end of the brace goes up & which end down, as long as it runs from the top of one to the bottom of the other?
It doesn't really matter, it's temporary anyway. I strap a level to one corner post and run the braces from that one to the base if possible or to the next post. You may have to reposition.
When you get two plumb, you can start attaching horizontal members. The next uprights get easier.

Join the MAY HAL and wait until we open threads for the contests and read the rules for entries! This is a very special HAL this time!! I cant wait to begin contests!! and especially to read the stories of our fallen our vets from everyone.

If the winner doesn’t want a coop $250 MPC credit.

Nice contest and prize.
Since I'm being critical today, why do manufactured coops have so many nest boxes for such tiny buildings? They could save that lumber. It's almost half the size of the coop floor space.

Whenever we've tried to adopt a cat from the pound they make you sign something saying you won't make a barn cat out of them, and you can't have dogs.

Declawed barn cat??!!! Isn't that an oxymoron of sorts??!! lol poor thing...no declawed cat should be outdoors like that!

I'm guessing we may have 13 to 15 kittens here by the time I figure out how many the 3rd cat had! OY!!!

That's great! Congratulations.

Our dog does great with the cats...he protects them and loves them. He'll go outside and lay and they crawl all over him, lick him. Maybe some people shouldn't have cats with their dogs but I know plenty of people who's dogs are wonderful with cats, so I think that's kind of a strange rule to impose on everyone.
