Guys in the field know my chickens and eggs. They were going to get me a ballut to eat. I will surprise them if they do. And yes apple pie is breakfast lunch or dinner. Eat dessert first.

Yes rope is plenty warm. You should see older ones using it as well. Barn is cold at least for what chicks this age need. They go on and off it getting to food and water.
Not sure about broody. Last couple days on nest she was very tired. I suspect now after thinking about it she wasn't getting off for water.

Thanks for the well wishes. I think she is starting to like having chicks, she even asked to hold a duckling (but really, who could resist a newly hatched duckling).

I am going to focus more on Welbars for next year, I will probably sell my Welsummer flock because the Welbars are doing so much better at laying hatching, it makes the Welsummers seem like too much trouble. And a year ago I would have said Welsummers were my favorite breed.

How is the hatching at your place? I can tell you are still hatching because I see your CL ads from time to time. If you want any of the breeds I have, I'm starting to cut back on the hatching so I have extra eggs of almost everything.

Well three days of vacation has been fun, but today I have to work on my four three foot deep holes I have to dig in SW Missouri Rock. Yuck. I mentioned hating to get out my rock bar and they did not even know what that was, which I totally envied and wished I didn't live where it is a necessity.
