I just went outside again, and I do in fact have two hens brooding together. That is something that their sisters, aunts, mothers, grandmothers... have done for years without issue. They are even capable of sharing one chick.
I am guessing that I have fresh eggs in that box, so the one that went broody today can sit until the last of them are hatched. No incubator for me! :D

Took my two littles outside for the first time today, they were very unsure and stayed so close I could hardly step back to take a picture.

They will be two weeks old tomorrow.

@Fire Ant FarmI got it from Home Depot. It is strong but light. It does need to be cut out all the way to right by the curved up side. I put a scrap piece of the half inch stuff under the quarter inch stuff for strength. I really liked it.

For anyone that's interested, here is the chart I use to track the weights of chicks:

In it are four charts

This one just charts their weight from the day they hatch

This lines up to day zero for all chicks and plots their gains and losses from day zero

This shows the losses and gains for the first ten days

This calculates the four medications shown based on the most current weight of a chick

I was actually going to ask for this - thanks for posting!!!!

In other news, I went out to check on the 12 week old pullets, and the laminated table I use for shade has separated with heat and rain, and the birds were eating the shredded "stuff" exposed at the edges. Like, CHOWING DOWN!!!

I just spent some quality time duct taping the edges. Here's hoping that works - if not, I'll need to build something else for them and pitch the table. I hope they don't get sick off of it...
