I am officially confused......

I have hatched out 7 of Jace's babies. They are all buff silkie crosses, no way they could be anything but that cross.

They all have the same feather pattern and color. Three of them got their dad's dark skin, and four got light skin with blue patches at the very top of the hock and on the toes. Why would the "incomplete expression" happen?

Oh, and something even stranger.... All the chicks with light skin are male, and all the dark skinned are female.

(__)? morning,

Dang I can't win, mama wanted a new mode of transport, so I thought I'd be nice and bought her a new broom, now she P.O.d at me go figure
morning a BROOM!!! oh yer bad!!

Quote: yep last night set them!

I keep on having mice run in front of me whenever I close up the coop late..... I don't keep feed out at night, but I think some feed spills. Do yall have ideas for spill-proof feeders or mice traps? I hate to kill em, they are so cute but I want less feed waste and dont fancy the mice attracting weasels......

I just moved the duck house a bit, and a momma mouse came running out and all her babies attached to her nipples and she took off with them like that, one little mouse baby came squirming out looking for momma, typically I would have killed the mouse if I could but dang it them babies were so stinking cute and innocent like. I told the ducks and geese to eat them and left the run running!!! lol I didnt want to watch them have a field day on them/

I need to finish the modifications on a pop door for the latest coop, & install the last of the skirting on the run so the little ones can't get through to the outside or the grown birds on the other side, then I'm gonna kick these kids out of the basement. I turned off the bulbs in the brooder a couple days ago to get them hardened off a bit. They're big enough that they could jump out of the brooder when I open the lid to feed & water, but they don't know that & I ain't tellin' them. Daytime temps are running 70-90, nights maybe down to 60. Basement windows stay open 24/7 when there's no driving rain, so the temps in their room are probably in the 70's. Might need a heat source at night yet for a week or so?

What y'all think?
I think if you have a draft free area with plenty of shavings they will do fine if up off the ground. I sent mine out too whites into the rabbit hutch

I'd think any opening large enough to accept a chicken's head would be no problem for a mouse to get through.

LOL, I aint quite that stoopid, of course mice could get through. I just meant to reduce waste!
