I had to call the Sheriff to put down a young buck that had been hit. To make a long story short, with the immobilized deer at his feet, "Barney Fife" missed the deer's head @ point blank range, breaking the jaw instead.

Wow

When my 1st horse was hit in southern IL, one of the responding State Troopers shot him 4 times between the eyes (hardest place on a horse's head) before he got the job done. Could have done it with a single shot over an eye or right behind an ear (no bone in either place).

Oh, brother! I'm surprised they didn't know! Poor horse! Man, I would never shoot right between the eyes b/c of the bear that I heard went crazy and wreaked havoc in the adks after being shot between the eyes. A horse is different than a bear, but still .....

kathy how do you check for egg binding??

How to Check for a Stuck Egg

Put on a glove and water based lube and very gently insert you finger in the vent. If an egg is there you will feel it at about an inch in. Here are some pictures to help you visualize where the egg should be:



If you find a stuck egg, and the hen is still pooping, tube warmed fluids at 10 ml per pound, wait 60-90 minutes, then tube more fluids and give calcium gluconate at 50mg per pound. Place hen in a steam filled bathroom and let the fluids and calcium do their magic.
